“(OK) Quizá lo mejo de Kusturica, la clave alta se sostiene con gran solidez y estructura, un nécleo estupenda de personajes y la fantástica idea satírica del sótano donde la guerra continúa desde el 45 hasta el 61, varias capas e inmoralidades, la 2da guerra se funde con las guerras de la implosión de Yugoslavia” read more

" Notes: In the 90's, Kusturica was one of the most important directors in the world and I was a big fan of his work. Unfortunately, we haven't heard much from him during the 00's and that's too bad. Anyway, back in the 90’s, after making his only US production so far starring no one less than Johnny Depp (‘Arizona Dream’ and it is indeed quite marvelous), Kusturica went back to (ex-)Yugoslavia to make what many consider his magnum opus and, for the second time around, the Serbian director"

"February 24th Directed by: Emir Kusturica A big war epic, but not at all what comes to the mind when you think "war epic", being that there are no scenes of grand scale warfare, just the goings-on of socialist resistance group in the face of the German invasion of Yugoslavia. The tone of this film is really attractive, it's like a Jodorowsky/Fellini party and it becomes hard to believe this was almost made in the 21st century because it's straight up new wave as hell. I really liked the first "
