The problem isn’t that the film isn’t any good, on the contrary, it’s quite entertaining, and it’s that the script never sells the central problem as some huge life-altering event. It has so much conviction put in demonstrate its antihollywood thesis, that has an ugly charm. I like Aldrich´s rudeness. Palance and Steiger, one brute one brute and refined, are perfect matches for this torrid acting. Lupino, Hagen (the best), and winters ok.
