The last time I saw my sister, she bought me a DVD-box with the complete work of Xavier Dolan so that's how I ended up watching his movies. With this 2nd directing effort, there was an interesting evolution from 'J'ai tué ma mère', Nolan's directing debut, and it was definitely something more ambitious. Love it. Dolan at his most genunie ageless intergeneration no matter sexual preference impossible triangle. The end with Xavier screaming funny too platonic love is great.
Description:
Two friends compete for the affections of the same man in this romantic drama from Canada. Marie (Monia Chokri) is a woman living in Montreal who has frequently been let down in her relationships with men, while her close friend Francis (Xavier Dolan) is a gay man who hasn't been faring much better in his love life. Indeed, he obviously spent more time on making some interesting shots combining those with a very nice soundtrack. Furthermore, this movie was much less straightforward and it felt almost like an impressionist painting which was definitely intriguing. However, it also slightly backfired since the whole thing felt really obscure and you never get the opportunity to really learn the characters involved.
