A classic

To be honest, it has been a while since I have seen this flick and I should probably re-watch the damned thing at some point. Basically, in France, in 1995, there was a big celebration about the fact that cinema was existing already for 100 years and, through the whole year, they displayed some old classics in my city which was pretty neat. Well, that’s when I saw this movie and since it had a r... read more

Jour de Fête tells the story of an inept and easily-distracted French mailman who frequently interrupts his duties to converse with the local inhabitants, as well as inspect the traveling fair that has come to his small community. Influenced by too much wine and a newsreel account of rapid transportation methods used by the United States postal system, he goes to hilarious lengths to speed the delivery of mail while aboard his bicycle.

"Jacques Tati's debut feature is a pure delight of gentle French humour. A small village sees the arrival of a fair which affects the locals, particularly the clumsy, yet good-natured postman. Brimming with delights and those touches that have made Tati's film not only comedy gems but there is plenty here to delight. One of those films that will bring a smile even to the most harden-hearted individual. Lovely."
