A great movie

‘Howards End’ is worthy of its three Oscar wins. Based off the 1910 novel, the film focuses on Margaret Schlegel (Emma Thompson) who is left a house Howards End, in a will but the rest of the family doesn’t want her to have the house. There’s various love stories between characters as well, including Helen Schlegel (Helena Bonham Carter) and Leonard Bast (Samuel West), and there’s a grea... read more

A good movie

I already saw this movie but since it was a while back, I was quite eager to check it out again. First of all, there was a time when the James Ivory/Ismail Merchant team was the unbeatable champion in the British costume drama genre and this movie was definitely one of their biggest critical successes. Great plot, fine equilibrium between large cast because they're so accidetnally interdependent. The Schlegel's are as intelligent as naif between rcih and poor. In other lecture, almost everything happens because of Vanessa Redgrave wrinting a message leaving her home...

Margaret and Helen Schlegel are sisters - intelligent, cultured, and by the standards of the time, highly emancipated. They make the acquaintance of the prosperous, conventional Wilcox family, and Helen falls in love with the younger Wilcox son, Paul. This ends as badly as was to be expected with two such different individuals, and the two families part in the hope of never meeting again.

"Watched: March 14, 2020. Director: James Ivory Starring: Emma Thompson as Margaret Schlegel Vanessa Redgrave as Ruth Wilcox Helena Bonham Carter as Helen Schlegel Anthony Hopkins as Henry Wilcox Samuel West as Leonard Bast Beautiful film! Visually stunning, the sets are beautiful. Watching this film felt like looking at a 19th century painting. The acting is amazing. I'm a big fan of Emma Thompson and she was radiant here! So was Helena Bonham Carter. A film about social classes, pri"
