Alien (1979)
I personally didn't find this movie intriguing. Maybe it was the Alien itself, I don't know, but I did not enjoy this. Maybe overrated, or maybe just not my cup of tea. Also, not a fan of Sigourney Weaver.
The Cineast's rating:
Aliens (1986)
I might be one in a million, but I really wasn't feeling this movie at all. It is on the IMDB top 250 somehow.
The Cineast's rating:
I loved Natalie Portman, but personally didn't much like Reno. He's a good actor, just his character in this film bugged me. It's not a horrible film, it's actually solid, just not a masterpiece.
The Cineast's rating:
Just a spectacle of excellent special effects, and I'm sorry to say that's all it was. The story was going nowhere, and the romance shown was unnecessary as well. I don't find this a masterpiece at all, and feel it was too hyped up.
The Cineast's rating:
The Birds (1963)
The only Hitchcock film I wasn't fond of. Not frightening, and not very suspenseful. I did however enjoy the chemistry between the main characters, and the fact that the movie looked like it was from the 80's was impressive too.
The Cineast's rating:
I just found this movie very dull, filled with absolutely nothing scary like tons of critics and viewers have said. The whole duration of the film isn't filled with much.
The Cineast's rating:
I've never been a fan of fantasy films filled with swords, arrows, magic etc. so this really isn't a surprise. It's very well made, and it's a little intriguing, but I really didn't like the two that I saw.
The Cineast's rating:
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
I will admit that the franchise has an extremely clever concept, however I don't find Freddy Krueger creepy, nor did I find any of the films suspenseful in the least bit. In fact, I find it to be quite silly.
The Cineast's rating:
Highly uneventful, and not suspenseful in the least bit. Maybe I missed something, because it's considered to be a horror classic to tons of people.
The Cineast's rating:
Shoot 'Em Up (2007)
Just pure pointless shooting. Absolutely no story, a bad film that people seem to like.
The Cineast's rating:
WALL·E (2008)
Not very appealing to me. It won best animated feature of 08, yet I wasn't at all into it. The message behind it wasn't very good either.
The Cineast's rating:
Blade Runner (1982)
I don't know, this "Classic" just didn't interest me at all. Not a whole lot happened during the film, and the premise isn't my forte.
The Cineast's rating:
Pulp Fiction (1994)
Yes, the movie nobody in the world dislikes, the amazing "masterpiece" is on this list. Shoot me for not drooling over it.
This movie is good, in fact I would definitely watch it multiple more times. I just don't think it's a masterpiece. The acting is off the chains, and I really enjoyed the story, but it just didn't quite fit in for me.

The Cineast's rating:
About Schmidt (2002)
I heard so many good things from this one, but really it's just a very depressing and non enjoyable flick, and I'm one of the people who enjoy depressing movies, so that's really saying something.
The Cineast's rating:
Source Code (2011)
I know this has only been out for a little while. But a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes!? c'mon man, really? It's entirely overrated to say the least. I enjoyed the acting (Kind of) and the promise was there. It was too cheesy and predictable, not to mention mundane.
The Cineast's rating:
Bad acting from everyone except Scatman and Jack. The wife couldn't have been more of a nuisance, while the young kid just says all the cheesy one liners from many horrors before and after it. "The Shining" is predictable, uneven, corny, and just too dry to really get involved in.
On a positive note: the atmosphere was excellent.

The Cineast's rating:
The Dark Knight (2008)
Well, I like this film, but it's VERY cheesy, and seems like it's trying to make fun of the audience with it's plain and general dialogue. The story was complex, and had a lot of interesting sub-stories that intertwined, but Nolan just didn't connect the dots to my liking. Not to mention the predictability.
On a positive note: Beautifully shot, excellent soundtrack, and Christian Bale.

The Cineast's rating:
"The Thing" replaces real thrills with ridiculous looking alien creatures that pop up quite frequently, and had no impact on me. The acting on Kurt Russel's part was great, but the whole thing was just a non-suspenseful mess. Not Carpenter's high point.
The Cineast's rating:
O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000)
All these characters are somewhat funny. However, the whole plot is just too dull, and I found it impossible to fully enjoy.
The Cineast's rating:
The Man Who Wasn't There (2001)
A simple case of preference, I believe. A very slow moving thriller, that, in the end, just isn't rewarding enough. I thought the acting was very good, but the whole narrative wasn't going anywhere interesting.
The Cineast's rating:
Blood Simple (1984)
A few intense sequences here and there, but overall, Joel and Ethan Coen's directorial debut is void of any real depth.
The Cineast's rating:
For now, Rotten Tomatoes has this at 96%. And while that may not mean a lot, I have friends and family who love this movie as well. The final thirty minutes are very satisfying. The rest is, well, very pushed, very cheesy, and flat-out not fun.
The Cineast's rating:
Unforgiven (1992)
Predictable story, relatively annoying characters, and not wholly original.
The Cineast's rating:
127 Hours (2010) (2011)
It didn't hit home in the emotional department, and I felt ripped off after viewing it.
The Cineast's rating:
True Romance (1993)
An annoying Christian Slater, with some underwhelming action sequences. This is a simple thriller, and not to mention a very dry one.
The Cineast's rating:
Requiem for a Dream (2000)
O.K, we get it, drugs are terrible. Aronofsky felt the need to shove that point down our throats, with uninteresting characters, plot-lines, and no actual direction. I will admit that it did disturb me, though, and the whole downward spiral with the old lady was fairly good.
The Cineast's rating:
I find it stupid, to be honest. It really is as simple as that. Every time I saw it, it bugged the crap out of me.
The Cineast's rating:
50/50 (2011)
I very much like both Levitt and Rogen (mostly Rogen) but felt really unattached throughout most of this movie. Its a hit-and-miss comedy/drama, that unfortunately mostly misses. Its very generic, yet so highly praised.
The Cineast's rating:
Melodramatic, "emotional" and "deep" scenes, that never actually spark any feeling. It was basically a soap opera made for the big screen, but the result is just not worth it. Best Picture winner? Hmmmmmm............
The Cineast's rating:
Keep in mind fellow Listal members: I enjoyed a lot of these films. They are NOT necessarily bad, just not nearly as good as the majority says (IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, other users, etc.)
Opinions are very subjective, just remember that!
There's also a few films here, that I'll be removing soon. 'Seven' and 'Pulp Fiction' to name two.
