"Long Arm of the Law" is a Hong Kong crime film released in 1984. It was directed and produced by Johnny Mak. It is the first film in the "Long Arm of the Law" film series. The movie is based on the Guangzhou criminals who were ravaging Hong Kong at that time, telling the story of their robberies and murders from the mainland to Hong Kong. It is adapted from the sensational "Nantong Bank" case committed by Zhu Guorong (formerly known as Zhu Zizhao), the president of Guobao Group in 1980.
According to scriptwriter Philip Chan, the majority of those who played the gangsters in the film were (formerly) "Big Circle Boys" themselves. One of them even attempted to rob a department store after production wrapped up, believing the crime was as easy as it was depicted in the movie he had just been a part of. Not surprisingly, he was captured after injuring himself while running through a glass door; a predicament that would've been avoided had he known the difference between breakaway props to real glass.

Dai Dai, played by Alex Man, is caught by the Big Circle Gang and was forced to reveal the whereabouts of his three police colleagues Xiang Dong, Jingsheng and Xuejun. They tried to break him, by tying a sack filled with rats around his neck, allowing the rodents to feast on his head while being hung upside down.
