Aidan (Aidan Gillen) has brain damage as a result of having his umbilical cord ties around his neck during childbirth and Tom (Tom Fisher) has depression. "Treacle Jr." also studies the effects of abuse and positivity/negativity.

More of a torture film ha ha. But killer/rapist Martin (superbly played by Laurence R. Harvey) is obviously suffering the aftereffects of his father's sexual abuse. He might even have PTSD IMHO. The film also features a very perverted psychiatrist character.

This movie must be deep I had no idea what was happening LOL. But it deals with reality/unreality concepts and the effect the celebrity life and compromise of values has on young stars. Speaking of compromise, I don't think I've ever used the term LOL ha ha.

Downfall (2004)
A look into the tortured mind of Adolf Hitler, this movie paints a portrait of a man who would rather see his countrymen slaughtered by the thousands then surrender a futile war.

Frasier and his brother Niles are both psychiatrists, and the show often makes fun of their hang-ups and their inability to deal with their own issues.

The Living and the Dead (2006)
A movie that takes some liberties with the mental illness concept to provide a disturbing portrayal of a mentally ill man and his not-so-gradual descent into madness while his cold dad is away on business. Not always subtle or coherent, but haunting and very well-acted.

Wild Tigers I Have Known (2006)
"Wild Tigers I Have Known" portrays themes of loneliness, alienation, and sexual identity. Unfortunately the film has such an inflated sense of self-important pretension that it's hard to appreciate the psychological aspects.

Manic (2002)
Zooey Deschanel plays against type in this hard-hitting cinema verite drama about teens in a juvenile institution. Deals with the kids' various issues (one has a awful temper, one's a youth sex offender) in a candid and intriguing manner. An early role for "(500) Days of Summer" star Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

The Butcher Boy (1998)
Based on the critically-acclaimed psychological novel by Irish author Patrick McCabe, "The Butcher Boy" is the story of Francie, a boy from a deprived family who loses his mind after the death of his mother. This movie deals with guilt, projection, mental illness, and sexual abuse by the Catholic church.

Little Man Tate (1991)
Dede (Jodie Foster')s son Fred is a troubled child prodigy. I don't remember much about this movie, but this is a good movie about the price of genius, bullying, and parental love.

The Fox and the Hound (1981)
On the surface, "The Fox and the Hound" is a sweet, sad, and colorful portrayal of unlikely canine friends. Look a little deeper, however, and you will see a story of nature Vs. nurture.

A boy's guilt and grief veers out of control after the accidental drowning death of his friend in this unrelentingly bleak film set during the Glasgow garbage strike.

The Other Sister (1999)
Saccharine mental retardation-themed romance with a hammy, condescending 'get-in-touch-with-your-inner-spastic' lead performance by Juliette Lewis.

I Am Sam (2002)
Sappy story with Sappy Sean Penn giving an "I can play a disabled person- now give me an Oscar!' performance. I could quote Downey Jr.s "Never go full retard" joke from "Tropic Thunder," but why be so predictable?
moviebuff15's rating:
Buddy Boy (2000)
Campy, weird, sick, but somehow awesome story about a stuttering Catholic man struggling with his crisis of faith and his despondent boozy 'step-mother,; who has secrets of her own. Irish actor Aidan Gillen is awesome here as the stammering youth; Francis (Gillen) is a truly unforgettable character. Be on the lookout for themes of guilt, religion, projection, and repression running throughout.

Rain Man (1988)
Dustin Hoffman plays an Autistic guy, Tom Cruise plays his asshole brother. People are very divided about this film, as someone with high-functioning Asperger's, I think it is very good for the time it was made.
moviebuff15's rating:
A dim-witted sort of fellow manages to be present for lots of major historical events. Oh yeah, and he can play ping-pong really well. Like a champ. I liked this movie when I saw it, but it might be too sappy for me now. Forrest isn't a particularly interesting character. Gump's Mental Disability grants him a spot on this list.

The Long Day Closes (1992)
A sincere look at the dreams, nightmares, and inner thoughts of a cinema-loving gay boy growing up in '40's Britain.
