Naked Lunch (1992)
January 12 - My very first Cronenberg film. It's certainly one of the weirdest, and most original, films I've watched. My attention faded now and then, but Naked Lunch was a wonderfully surreal, dreamlike experience. 7.2/10

Hobo with a Shotgun (2011)
January 16 - Disgusting simply for the sake of being disgusting. The silly premise appealed to me before viewing it, but it's too excessive and gratuitously gory and scummy to be enjoyable. I was cringing more often than not. I felt like I needed to take a shower after I watched this. 3.7/10

Real Steel (2011)
January 21 - It's about as good as a film about robot boxers can be, but even then, it's still not even very good. If you can forgive its ludicrous premise, Real Steel might be a decent movie. I couldn't. 4.8/10

January 22 - Words can't do justice to the grace and whimsy on display in The Illusionist. It's a film that harkens back to the glory days of 2D animation and tells its story using visuals rather than dialogue. Jacques Tati would be proud. 9.4/10

January 25 - This is my fifth Fellini film, after having seen La Strada, Nights of Cabiria, La Dolce Vita and 8 1/2, all of which I consider perfect or near perfect films. Satyricon, on the other hand, was pure torture to sit through. It's a shallow, unfocused film that lacks the genuine creativity of 8 1/2 and the bleak realism of La Strada. On paper, this film would seem fun, but really it's a hollow shell of nothingness. It seems like this would have been more fun to make than to watch. 2.5/10

January 26 - Quite possibly the worst Hitchcock film I've seen, and yes, I've seen Mr. and Mrs. Smith. It lacks all of the typical Hitchcockian touches that make him the "Master of Suspense." It moves at a glacial pace and does not lead to any sort of startling twist to compensate for the two hours wasted on the film. 4.3/10

January 27 - Luxurious, graceful and flat-out gorgeous. Everything about this picture is beautiful. 9.3/10

Session 9 (2001)
January 27 - Dull, eventless, bland, and most of all, not even the slightest bit scary. I can appreciate that director Brad Anderson was going more for atmosphere than gore, but a horror film should at least send some shivers up your spine, shouldn't it? 4.0/10
brantastic16's rating:
January 28 - Surprisingly witty, absorbing and heartfelt. Possibly the greatest baseball movie ever made? Director Bennett Miller takes a subject that, on paper, would only appeal to the most die-hard baseball junkies and makes it not merely accessible, but truly riveting to even those who couldn't care less about the sport. 8.4/10

By December 31, 2012 (if the world hasn't imploded by then), I'd like to achieve the goal of viewing 500 films. To count towards my goal, all films must be feature length (over 40 minutes) and they must be films I've never seen before (or at least don't remember seeing). This means that I must see an average of approximately 41.6 movies per month, 9.6 per week, or 1.36 per day. I think this goal is feasible. I usually see about 40 movies per school month and between 60 and 70 in the summer months so it's not a far stretch. However, I'm currently in my final year of high school so the chaos of graduation and getting a job may restrict me from watching as many movies as I want. I'll just have to wait and see... Last year I made the same goal for myself, but fell short at 473 films, mainly because my movie-watching habits were minimal during my first few months. Now I have a fresh start. Wish me luck!
