Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994)
I really love the comedy movie genre, and, when trying to devise my ultimate favorite comedy movie list, I couldn't think of a movie that has made me laugh more times in my life and can still make me laugh than this movie. Jim Carrey is such a great physical comedian, and it shines in this movie.

When Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back came out, I wasn't very schooled in the comedy of Kevin Smith. In fact, the only ViewAskew movie I had seen was Dogma, so it's no wonder that I didn't actually get that many of the characters popping up in this film were from other movies in the ViewAskewniverse. My friends and I thought this movie was hilarious; we must have watched it a hundred times the first year or so after it came out on DVD.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005)
There's no denying the comedic firepower of Steve Carell, Seth Rogen, and Paul Rudd. Steve Carell pulls this role off without a hitch, a performance I don't think is hyperbole to call comic genius. So many good quotes and funny moments from this movie.
CalebTheGreat's rating:

Trading Places (1983)
This is my favorite comedy of the 1980s. Eddie Murphy was in his prime and Dan Aykroyd was as funny as ever. I do enjoy the commentary this film attempts to make Nature versus Nurture and role upbringing and environment plays in the way humans make decisions and conduct themselves. Despite the underlying message, this is a very funny movie all the way through, and one I can watch over and over. (Also, I love the cameo of the Duke brothers at the end of Coming to America)
CalebTheGreat's rating:

Super Troopers (2001) (2002)
I remember the fist time I watched super troopers. I was a freshmen in college, so 19 years old or so. I remember laughing so hard all the way through. These Broken Lizard guys are really, really funny. I've thoroughly enjoyed everything they've done since (Beerfest, The Dukes of Hazzard, and The Slammin Salmon were all hilarious). I've probably seen this movie over 50 times, and it never fails to incite laughter.
To echo the note I wrote in 80s comedy list I really love John Hughes movies and any movie with John Candy. The two together is comedy gold as far as I'm concerned. This movie is so funny from start to finish; Candy brings such a comedic presence to the screen. Uncle Buck is a very close second to Trading Places as my favorite comedy from the 1980s.
CalebTheGreat's rating:

Idiocracy (2006)
What a great premise! I find it rare that a premise-funny movie actually delivers on the comedy all the way through, but Idiocracy definitely succeeds. Dax Shepard, Maya Rudolph, Terry Crewes are hysterical, and, for who Joe Bauers is supposed to be, Luke Wilson may have been the perfect choice. All in all, great movie!
CalebTheGreat's rating:

Bio-Dome (1996)
I wrote a note about this film in the list of my favorite 90s comedies. I concede that Bio-Dome may not be the 8th funniest movie of all time, and, in a vacuum, I can't say I would like this movie nearly as much as I do. Nevertheless, I love this film! We had this on VHS when I was a kid, so, needless to say, I watched it over and over. I still watch it every year on Earth Day and laugh every single time. Tribal!
CalebTheGreat's rating:

Knocked Up (2007)
Hard to argue that Judd Apatow isn't the king of 2000s comedy, and, as such, it shouldn't be a surprise that another Apatow flick cracks the top 10. Knocked up is so funny, and I love that so many of the actors from the Apatow universe show up in this one. This movie delivers on so many levels and delivers real laughs all the way through. Could've done without the crowning scene though...
CalebTheGreat's rating:

American Wedding (2003)
This really is the best and funniest of the American Pie series. The first two were, eh, okay, but American Wedding really packs the most serious and sincere comedic punch. The characters have really grown up since the first American Pie movie, and so has the writing. It's more heartfelt and genuine, but with the same characters you love to laugh at from the first two movies. The Finch and Stifler rivalry is as funny as ever, and who can forget the scene when Stifler eats the "chocolate"? I laugh just thinking about it.

This is it...after compiling a list of my favorite comedy movies for the 80s, 90s, and 2000s, I've finally arrived at the final list of favorite comedy movies. Here they are, my 50 all-time favorite comedy movies.
