Note: I haven't seen this movie in the last 15 years and it still holds up very well. The acting and writing in this movie is top-notch. All the characters feels so realistic and there is not a single dull moment in this movie. What I love about this movie is the themes that the characters go through. The movie deals with people with morality crises and their lust. This movie handles the themes so perfectly because you have characters that are feeling lonesome in the world and you can really feel what these characters are going through. Overall, this is an amazing movie and I highly recommend it.

Note: This was Paul Thomas Anderson's first movie and it is still awesome. This is his most underrated movie that he has done since this movie gets overshadow by his other movies in my opinion. The acting is great and I love the story. I love all the characters in this movie because they are memorable and you care on what happens to them. Also, the movie moves very nicely for a movie that is 102 minutes. The movie felt like it didn't go that quickly or drag on forever. Overall, this is a great gem and it is worth checking out.

Note: 30 years later and this movie is still hilarious. The story is pretty predicable, but the jokes in this movie still make me laugh hard. This movie has a lot of funny and memorable scenes that I can't help to laugh. I also feel like some of the social commentary in this movie is still pretty relevant in today's world. The movie has a fun cast of characters and I still find them to memorable many years later. Overall, this is a very funny movie and it is worth watching if you haven't seen it yet.

Note: I remember seeing this movie back on the Sci-Fi channel as a kid and I haven't seen it in years. This is still a great movie in my opinion. I love all the characters in this movie because they are so memorable and have great personalities to them. I also like how the movie deals with the idea on what it means to lose your humanity and the idea of living forever is not really a good thing. Not to mention, the animation in this movie is amazing to look at. I recommend this movie to both sci-fi anime fans and non sci-fi anime fans.

Note: I finally got the chance to watch this movie after hearing about it for the last few years now. In 2015, everyone was super hype up for this movie and talked about how awesome this movie was. To be honest, I thought this movie kinda sucks.
The idea behind this movie is cool, but the execution is poor. I didn't care for the characters and the movie is pretty boring when there is no action going on. I know this movie is meant to be silly and cheesy, but it is hard for me to enjoy something if I don't care about anything going on in the movie.
The movie tries way too hard to be cheesy and self ware that it comes off as lame. I will give the movie some credit because the special effects are very good. The transformation scenes are great and the gore in this movie is pretty awesome.
I only recommend this movie if you have nothing else to watch on a rainy day. I'm nice enough to give this movie a 3/5 because it had good special effects.

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu (2019)

Note: Like most people born in the late 80s and early 90s, I grew up with Pokemon back it when it was brand-new. I thought this movie was going to suck, but it ends up being a decent movie.
It is far from a great movie, but they did a good job on making the world of Pokemon come to life. The only thing I didn't like about the movie is that the story was rather predictable. The relationship between the main character and Pikachu is pretty well done. I also give the movie credit for not making the female main character not falling in love with the main male character.
I love the special effects in this movie because they did a good job on making the Pokemon look realistic, but still faithful to the original designs. Overall, kids and fans of Pokemon will really enjoy it. If you not a fan of Pokemon, you may want to wait for on Netflix or on FX to try it.

Note: This movie does a great job on mixing neo noir and horror into one movie. I still love this movie for having a very good story and having great acting. This movie is filled with creepy and disturbing scenes that it works very well with the movie's tone and atmosphere. I think the movie does have a bit of a slow start, but it still a great movie nevertheless. Check it out if you haven't seen it yet.

This is movie is worth checking out if you enjoy comedies.

Note: I decided to check this movie out on Amazon Prime because I was bored and I didn't have anything else to do. I don't know what I was expecting going in because I never heard of this movie until now. This movie was surprisingly good and was a lot of fun.
The story is nothing amazing and the characters are a bit cliché, but the action and the special effects really make up for the movie. The movie has awesome gore and the demons in this movie look really cool. It's nice to have a movie with cool looking demons for once in my opinion.
Overall, this movie is filled with high energy from start to finish. I highly recommend this movie if you are into trashy violent horror movies.

Re-watch
Note: This movie is always entertaining to watch because it is a fun trashy movie with great effects from Rick Baker. I always like how gross and scary that the Melting Man looks in this movie. Rick Baker did a great job on making someone looked so gross and slimy. The gore in this movie is also very cool in this movie as well.
The story makes little to no sense and the acting is laughable at times, but I don't care. This is a type of movie that you watch on a Friday night with some popcorn and soda. The movie even has some important history to it because it did help inspire The Toxic Avenger and even Robocop play an homage to this movie.
Overall, this is a fun trashy movie to watch. This movie can be fun to watch without seeing the Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode of this film. If you enjoy bad movies, check this movie out.

Note: 50 years later and this movie is still great. I love the characters, writing, soundtrack and the atmosphere that this movie has. The movie has a very good social commentary on the societal landscape and the hippie movement of the 1960s. There's not a single boring moment in this movie because I always find myself being sucked into the movie's atmosphere when I always rewatch this movie. I highly recommend this movie if you haven't seen it.

Note: Probably Mario Bava's best movie in my opinion. The cinematography, story, music, characters and the atmosphere in this movie is top-notch. There's not a single dull moment in this movie. I can always watch this movie and still be very entertain by it. The thing I love the most about this movie is the colors because the movie is amazing to look at. Mario Bava's style of colors would help inspire film makers like Dario Argento to use his style of color choices. Overall, this movie is fantastic and I highly recommend it.

Note: I wanted to check out this movie when it came out in theaters and missed out on it. I finally got the chance to see it the movie now and I did like it. The story and characters could have been better, but I did have a lot of fun watching it. I like the atmosphere and the death scenes are pretty cool. The movie has an eye-gouging scene similar to the one from Lucio Fulci's Zombie (Zombi 2). I hope we get a sequel because I want to see more stories set in this movie's universe.

Note: While I do think Re-Animator is a better movie, I still love From Beyond. This movie is awesome from start to finish. The story could have been written better, but the atmosphere and the special effects are amazing. This movie is almost 35 years old, and they still look fantastic. It's a shame that we don't get movies like this anymore. I highly recommend this movie if you haven't seen it yet.

Note: I decided to check out this movie after hearing good things about it from other people that I know. This was a pretty enjoyable horror anthology movie with cool special effects and nice body horror. However, the writing in most of these segments was not very good. I feel like some plot holes in the segments stick out like a sore thumb. Not to mention, the acting is a mixed bag because you have actors that do a very good job on their roles while the other actors did a terrible job on acting. Overall, I still had fun watching this movie. I recommend renting this movie first before you buy it.

Sexy Beast (2000)

First viewing
Note: I decided to check out this movie because it was from the same director who did Under the Skin (2013). I really enjoy this movie because it had great acting, a good story and nice visuals. This movie is pretty original when it comes to crime drama movies because you get to see the psychological exploration of these characters. The movie deals with the relationships between the characters and the dark side of their humanity.
Everyone did a great job on acting in this movie including Ben Kingsley, who played a terrifying role as a mobster. Overall, this is a great underrated gem from the early 2000s. I highly recommend this movie.

Cabiria (1914)
Date: 8/28/2019
Viewed: Film Class
First viewing
Note: Italy was really ahead of their time with movies back in the 1910s. Much like L'Inferno (1911), the movie has ground breaking special effects that are awesome to look at. Cabiria has special effects that feels like movies from the 1930s like King Kong. This movie feels huge and the large amount of effort that they put into this movie is amazing. Everything else about the movie is alright.
The movie is over 2 hours and it moves at a snail's pace. I do think the story is pretty interesting for the most part, but I had a hard time getting attach to certain characters. I also had a hard time telling who was who because the story can be pretty messy at times. Also, the movie has some scenes of black face make up which is never pretty to look at.
Overall, Cabiria is not a movie that I will watch again, but I do have a lot of respect for it. The movie is worth checking out once for the historical factor.

Within Our Gates (1920)

Note: I saw this movie for the first time today in my film class and I enjoy it. The movie had a good cast of characters that you care about and the movie had nice pacing. The movie didn't go on forever and not a single moment was boring. I like how the movie shows on what life was like for Black Americans during the early twentieth century. I also like the message behind this movie to encourage Black Americans to earn self-respect and become equal to everyone else. Overall, this is a solid movie from the 1920s that is worth checking out.

Note: I hanged out with my friends on a Saturday night, and they told me that they never saw this movie before. So we decided to watch it on Netflix, and we had a great time. I always laugh hard when watching this movie because the jokes are still hilarious. There's not much that I can say about this movie because everyone else has talked about this movie to death. I highly recommend this movie if you haven't seen it yet.

Repo Man (1984)
Date: 8/31/2019

Re-watch
Note: I haven't seen this movie in over 15 years and this movie is still amazing. I love this movie because there is not a single boring moment. The plot is simple, but there is a lot of depth going on in the movie. The movie has a great social commentary on 80s America. I love how the movie explores the themes of being controlled and the things as they are can continue uncontested.
The movie also has a great soundtrack and stylish visuals. I highly recommend this movie if you haven't seen it yet.
