How do you call 'Cut!'?

Ben Affleck is the latest in a line of actors who have taken to directing. He does a creditable job again, proving that "Gone Baby Gone" was no fluke.

Actor or Director?
Director, by majority decision. While his acting skills are decidedly limited, Affleck has proven himself impressively capable behind the camera and as a scriptwriter too (this movie, Good Will Hunting). He should stick to what he does best, and it's not acting.

This isn't George Clooney's first attempt at acting and directing in the same movie, the credit for that goes to 'Confessions of a Dangerous Mind'. This is a superior movie in all respects.

Actor or Director?
Actor, by majority decision. While Clooney is a skilled director, no question, he is a *fantastic* actor. One of my favourite actors, in fact.

Again, like Clooney, this is not Clint Eastwood's first attempt at directing himself, but his finest movie to date, in my opinion.

Director, by majority decision. This is a tough one, Eastwood is a fantastic actor in my eyes, but he's an even better director. In fact, he's had more critical acclaim as a director than he ever did an as actor. Proof? Two Oscar wins for Direction, none for acting.

Zach Braff takes a stab at directing his own movie here, and makes good.

Actor, for now. While he's a decent director, Zach Braff is better off sticking to acting for now. He might develop better directorial skills as time goes by though, so he should give it another shot at some point.

Edward Norton directs this perfect blend of comedy and drama, and gives a stellar performance as an actor too (as usual).

Actor or Director?
Actor, unanimous decision. Despite his excellent direction in this movie, Norton is easily the best actor of his generation. Maybe he realises where his talents lie too, since he hasn't directed another movie since.

Roberto Benigni plays a Jewish man trying to keep his family safe under Fascist rule in WW II Italy. Oh, and he directs too.

Actor or Director?
Actor, unanimous decision. Benigni is a mediocre director at best.

Tom Hanks directs this music infused romantic comedy about a small town band trying to make it big. He has a supporting role as a music exec too.

Actor or Director?
Actor, unanimous decision. Tom Hanks might be a competent director, but he's not overly skilled in that department. As an actor, he's on the finest in his generation, and he should stick to that.

Mel Gibson plays Scottish hero William Wallace in this massive mangling of British history. He directs as well.

Actor or Director?
Unanimous life sentence away from movie making. He should just retire and keep his right wing looniness away from me.

Commander Riker... er, Jonathan Frakes directs one of the best entries in the Star Trek franchise.

Actor or Director?
Director by majority decision. While he was unremarkable as an actor, he's been very competent while directing some of the Star Trek movies.

Captain Kirk... umm, William Shatner directs this movie. I have not seen it, but I couldn't resist adding it to the list.

Actor, unanimous decision. There is only one Captain Kirk.

Sydney Pollack made a habit of inserting himself as a minor character in all his movies.

Director, unanimous decision. Pollack was a brilliant director and a minor actor... like all his characters.

Woody Allen was the star of several of his movies, none more celebrated that Annie Hall. I was never a fan.

Actor or Director?
Director, by majority decision. As an actor, he's an annoying twit. As a director, he can sometimes pull off decent movies.

Raj Kapoor came from a family of Bollywood royalty. He was a consummate actor *and* director. He plays a scoundrel with a heart of gold, in one of his most famous movies.

Hung jury. It's impossible to pick a role for Raj Kapoor. He was brilliant everywhere.
