Stephen Chow has always been a fairly talented filmmaker. Kung Fu Hustle pays homage to the Shaw Brothers and Wuxia style of Hong Kong cinema, while crafting his own legacy artefact that is all his own style. His usual cast of players deliver strongly in the comedy stakes and his penchant for over the top humour and slapstick shine through, but he utilises visual effects with a broad stroke. He stages his action setpieces with breathtaking staging. It's a love affair with classic cinema done with the exuberance and energy of modern filmmaking, a classic of fantasy.
