There was something really appealing about this trilogy and I was really eager to check it out. Eventually, even though I enjoyed this first installment, it was still a little bit disappointing in my opinion. The point is that the story was not really strong. BradWesley123's Movie Journal- November 2016 (22 movies items)" DVD- 1hr. 42min. First Viewing 1974 is a solid start to the Red Riding trilogy; it does play many new notes, but plays the old ones fairly well. This is thanks to an evocative, brutal mood and strong work from the actors (Garfield and Hall are exceptional). It does get bogged down by brutality though, a symptom of many similar films. Luckily, there's not enough to sink the solid work going on around it. "
