Beautiful and emotional tale

I remember seeing this movie as a kid, and I loved it even then. I was a fan to the Casper cartoons, and to me, this was a great movie. As a kid, it was just entertaining. Looking at it again as I am older, I now love this movie more than just because it's about my favorite friendly ghost. This movie does a good job clenching the issue of death and either letting it go and hang onto it as a ghost ... read more

It's one of my favorite childhood movies I can watch it again and again without feeling bored. even though that the last time I saw it was on a DVD and I have no idea where it went, but I do remember all of the movie and how fun was it.. You can't tell me that a movie like that has low points or something, it will always be my fav ♥

Relies too much on visual style rather than plot

'Casper' is a children's movie based off the Casper the Friendly Ghost comic books and cartoons. This movie is not a bad adaptation but it puts too much work into visual style and not enough into plotting! 'Casper' features cutting edge visual effects and a great visual style. It features some decent acting from the lead roles (Christianna Ricci and Bill Pullman) but unfortunately it's not enough ... read more

It’s actually a pretty ok film, and while the film at times feels like a product of it’s time, it’s still worth checking out. While the film was successful at the box office, critics felt it was kind of meh. The film has the most bizarre list of film cameos ever, including Rodney Dangerfield. Pros and Cons of Films: Vol. 2 (130 movies items)

"Pros: Bill Pullman Christina Ricci The film cameos It’s a pretty decent film, that’s not too scary for younglings, but it’s scary enough. The ghosts Cathy Moriarty and Eric Idle The cons: Oh dear God, this film has emotional whiplash over load. Some aspects have aged better than others. The ghost effects, feel a bit dated."

A winner of a family film- Casper is so cute!

“I really liked this movie, I seriously don't get the low rating. It is a most enjoyable family film, that is really sweet. My only complaints are one or two dull spots in the script and plot(primarily in the middle) and I didn't feel as though the direction was as good as it could have been. The special effects however are simply wonderful, and the sets are suitably dark and Gothic. But what made this movie for me was Casper, forgive me but he is so cute. The whole movie is well worth seeing just for him, but there are many other good things about this film too. The dance sequence especially is delightful.

The music by the ever reliable James Horner is lovely, and the performances are very good. Christina Ricci matches Casper beautifully in a delightfully sweet central performanc” read more

Films I've seen on celluloid in the digital era (413 movies items)

"FORMAT: 35mm CONDITION: ★★★★ NOTES: First reel had a few drawbacks - a slice-cut during a shot of a car, what looked like a changeover but wasn’t and an actual changeover that took several frames off after the first cue mark. The audio was noticeably fuzzy both scenes in which Casper asked Kat “Can I keep you?” Otherwise, a surprisingly fine print for what it’s worth. DATE: October 27th 2019 CINEMA: The Prince Charles Cinema LOCATION: West End"
