The narrative is slight, but the two central performances are beautifully detailed portraits of young love. Brooklyn is charming, if overly sentimental, eschewing the more dramatically potent stuff in favor of a fluffy romance. Good story, of dilemma between love with a handsome poor italian Brooklyn and the stiff bachelor in the province. Ronan is good actress, she gains confidence as her character; but I think is too selfconscious when she couldn't be so.

Since this movie was very well received when it was released, I was quite eager to check it out. Well, even though it turned out to be not bad at all, I can't say it really blew me away though. I don't know, maybe it was because the main character didn't have to struggle so much after all. I mean, beside the fact that she got seriously home-sick (which I could really identify with from my own experience), in fact, she was provided with a place to stay, a job, some schooling and she even managed to find a really nice guy without too much effort. Furthemore, the 3rd act turned out to be almost impossible to swallow.
