" Art School Confidential first appeared in the #7 issue of the Dan Clowes comic book series Eightball, as a four-page short story that was, of course, expanded to fit the length of the movie. TBH, I normally wouldn't give a thumbs-up to a film who's clunkiness in its plot seems to distract from its distinctive premise, but I think that this industry needs more Clowes-based comic book-based movies. IMO, these kinds of films really do provide a nice refreshing break from the standard "same ol' s"

"This was a pretty rough attempt to capture the essence of art school. Minghella, in the lead, does fine, it's the supporting cast that blows. Even the grand Malkovich had a tough time convincing us this was good... though he did manage to spew out a few comedic lines."
“Since I really loved 'Ghost World', I was really eager to see this other collaboration involving Terry Zwigoff and Daniel Clowes and I had some rather high expectations. Well, unfortunately, this movie turned out to be rather disappointing after all. I mean, you could see the damned thing definitely had some potential providing us with a compelling and gritty depiction of an Art school but, to be honest, it never really worked. Basically, I guess that the makers tried to play around with the idea that Art schools are in fact pretty much like any other schools, with exactly the same clichés, except that what you learn in Art school might be even more meaningless. Indeed, can you actually learn to become an artist while following some classes? How are you supposed to grade a work of Art? So” read more
