Django (1966)

The gist of it: Gruesome, ruthless, surprising, dark. It's easy to understand why Tarantino loved this spaghetti western, which by the way has a message against racism. The international cast was dubbed in Italian in the original production: even Italian lead actor Franco Nero was dubbed by another Italian actor, Nando Gazzolo.

The good: Cult movie. Some great spaghetti western moments

The bad: Sergio Corbucci is not Sergio Leone and Franco Nero is not Clint Eastwood. Some parts are dull and the anti-racist "message" is wordy.

The gist of it: Michael Moore compares health care in the US of A with the rest of the world. The movie is from 2007, before president Obama's reform

The good: Somewhat informative, brilliant and moving at moments.

The bad: Heavily biased. Moore's documentaries don't tell lies, but he only tells one side of the story. European health care is not heaven either.

Language: American

The O.P.'s rating:
People who added this item 77 Average listal rating (59 ratings) 5.9 IMDB Rating 6.1

The gist of it: A comedic movie about council elections in a little town in Calabria, Southern Italy. Crime and political apathy blend and mix. The title is a made-up word referring to qualunquismo, Italian for political apathy

The gist of it: The classic Disney animation fairy tale everybody knows

The good: Witch Maleficent and her funny evil minions bring some action and irony to the table

The bad: Less accurate drawings compared with earlier classics. The "good" characters like Princess and Prince look a bit dumb and boring, and the Three Good Fairies talk too much

People who added this item 732 Average listal rating (441 ratings) 6.3 IMDB Rating 6.7
Sliding Doors (1998)

The gist of it: A romantic comedies that unfolds in two parallel universes.

The good: The trick of a parallel "What if" makes the story intriguing. Gwyneth is adorable. Ms. Paltrow fakes a convincing English accent, according to what I read from some natives.

The bad: The male co-stars are not on the same level as Gwynet.

Language: British English

August 2013 [S0]
The O.P.'s rating:
People who added this item 193 Average listal rating (103 ratings) 5.9 IMDB Rating 6.3

Language: American

August 2013 [C1]
The O.P.'s rating:
People who added this item 51 Average listal rating (34 ratings) 6.2 IMDB Rating 6.2

The gist of it: Two old pals--bank robbers--are released on parole after having spent 30 years in jail. Despite their age, they can still kick ass! Building a new life away from crime is not easy, though, and inmates' rehabilitation programs don't seem to help. Sour-sweet comedy about the elderly that relies heavily on the charm of the two old lions, Douglas and Lancasters.

The good: It's a pleasure watching Kirk and Burt on screen together, aged but still fierce.

The bad: The script is childish at times.

Language: American

The O.P.'s rating:
People who added this item 146 Average listal rating (88 ratings) 6.4 IMDB Rating 6.9

The gist of it: Houston, we have a problem. A staged fake travel to Mars!

The O.P.'s rating:

Robotropolis (2011)

The gist of it: Underrated independent horror science-fiction about robots going berserk! Like a zombie apocalypse, but with machines.

The good: Suspense hooked me in at start. Clever idea: action shown as a TV live report, just like it would have been shown had it happened for real. And I must say that, especially in the first part, it felt very real.

The bad: Too bad it loses speed along the way. Doesn't keep up to the promises. At times you can notice it's a low-budget production.

Language: English, mostly American

August 2013 [O0] *
The O.P.'s rating:

The good: Enjoyable mystery about a research fellow at the Arab-Anglo Institute in London who becomes a high-class escort. Caine and Weaver in old England. Eighties but feels Seventies. Sigurney plays an intriguing character: an intelligent, emancipated woman in a men's world. Brains and body, she has both, but will it suffice? Nice touch, the Palestinian (?) movie buff.

The bad: Story not compelling as it should be. What happens on screen is not entirely convincing and believable, at times.
