The Trivia of: Pirates of the Caribbean

Jim Carrey, Michael Keaton, Christopher Walken and Robert De Niro were considered to play captain Jack Sparrow. Johnny Depp won the role.

Christian Bale, Jude Law, Tobey Maguire, Heath Ledger, Ewan McGregor and Christopher Masterson were cosidered to play Will Turner. Christian Bale is the only one who rejected the role. Orlando Bloom won the role.

Jessica Alba, Jamie Alexander and Amanda Bynes were considered to play Elizabeth Swan. Keira Knightly won the role.

Robert De Niro was offered the role of Captain Jack Sparrow but he declined thinking that the movie wouldn't do well in the box office as many other pirate movies in the past. He was proved wrong and so he accepted the role of Captain Shakespeare in the movie Stardust.

Other actors considered for the part of Davy Jones included Iain Glen, Jim Broadbent and Richard E. Grant.

The title was originally just "Pirates of the Caribbean" but the name was changed in the hope that it would do well at the box office and a sequel could be made.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski wanted to use the massive water tank in Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico used for Titanic and Pearl Harbor, but Peter Weir's film Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World had the tank booked during the time Pirates was scheduled to shoot.

Steven Spielberg got hold of the script and wanted to direct the film with Bill Murray, Steve Martin or Robin Williams playing Captain Jack Sparrow. But Disney did not give permission for the film to be made.

While filming in London in October 2010, Johnny Depp received a letter from a local 9-year old schoolgirl, telling him her classmates needed help to 'mutiny' against her teachers. He turned up with almost no warning at the school in full Sparrow outfit, but advised against mutiny.

Penélope Cruz was the only choice for the role of Angelica. She agreed to the role without reading the script.

Alfred Molina was considered for the role of Blackbeard.
