Humans are preoccupied and fascinated with our own mortality. There are thousands of movies titles that are linked with the word 'die,' 'death,' 'dead,' or 'kill.' These are a few of the best sounding titles.
People who added this item 4306 Average listal rating (2976 ratings) 7.8 IMDB Rating 8.2
Die Hard
It's hard to top a title like Die Hard. It says nothing and everything all at once.

People who added this item 2138 Average listal rating (1446 ratings) 7.3 IMDB Rating 7.4
The Evil Dead (1981)
The Evil Dead: The Ultimate Experience in Grueling Terror

If a title like that doesn't get you exited, you're already dead.

People who added this item 1 Average listal rating (0 ratings) 8 IMDB Rating 6.2
Color Me Dead (1969)
Color Me Dead

Does anyone actually die in this film? Who knows, but the title has my attention.
People who added this item 1137 Average listal rating (732 ratings) 7.6 IMDB Rating 7.5
Dead Alive (1992)
Dead Alive
Oxy-morons make great titles for films. At least with Dead Alive it did.
Joseph Grey's rating:
People who added this item 1776 Average listal rating (1159 ratings) 7.9 IMDB Rating 7.9
Night of the Living Dead
The title tells you absolutely everything you need to know. There's going to be some living dead... tonight!

Joseph Grey's rating:
Death of a Salesman
Many of these great movie titles were great book titles first. This is just one example.
People who added this item 486 Average listal rating (265 ratings) 7.2 IMDB Rating 6.6
Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!
This sounds like an English translated title of a Japanese comic book. But alas, it's a 1960's classic about mean girls and violence. It's really hard to imagine a better title to go along with this movie.
Joseph Grey's rating:
Things to do in Denver When You're Dead
What a great title. I want to see this movie now.
People who added this item 1808 Average listal rating (1195 ratings) 6.4 IMDB Rating 6.7
Death Becomes Her
What a great title. It really doesn't get much better.

The -- of --

So many titles are done this way. It seems to work pretty well, at least in the English language.
People who added this item 86 Average listal rating (52 ratings) 6.4 IMDB Rating 6.3
The Dogs of War
I'd be interested to know how many Shakespearean snippets became movie titles. In the case of this movie title, it was Julius Ceasar Act 3, Scene 1 line 273.
Joseph Grey's rating:
People who added this item 791 Average listal rating (494 ratings) 6.8 IMDB Rating 7
The Color of Money
Everyone knows what color money is in your respective country. But somehow, it just sounds cool to say it.
People who added this item 101 Average listal rating (46 ratings) 7.8 IMDB Rating 7
The Hands of Orlac
So, what do we know? There's this dude named Orlac. And something is going on with those hands of his... I'm interested already.
Joseph Grey's rating:
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Sounds intriguing, right? It piqued my interest.
Joseph Grey's rating:
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Again, a book title that became many movies. But at least you know who it's about, right?

Hell yeah, that's a title I could get behind!
Joseph Grey's rating:
Dawn of the Dead
Joseph Grey's rating:
People who added this item 332 Average listal rating (192 ratings) 7.2 IMDB Rating 7.3
Village of the Damned
Doesn't sound like the place you want to spend summer holiday.
Joseph Grey's rating:
Legends of the Fall
Is anyone sure what that actually means? But it sounds cool, and that's all that matters.
Joseph Grey's rating:
People who added this item 646 Average listal rating (422 ratings) 6 IMDB Rating 6.6
Revenge of the Nerds
Imagine how lame it would have sounded if they simply called the movie "Nerds' Revenge". Somehow the 'of the' makes the title sound more impactful.
Joseph Grey's rating:
People who added this item 455 Average listal rating (336 ratings) 5 IMDB Rating 5.4
Masters of the Universe
This is the movie based on the popular cartoon and toy line. The production company behind this movie smartly removed the 'He-Man' preface in their movie, 'Masters of the Universe'.

Two Word Titles

People who added this item 9314 Average listal rating (6849 ratings) 8.3 IMDB Rating 8.8
Fight Club (1999)
Fight Club
Simple, straightforward and informative. You couldn't ask for more out of a title.

Joseph Grey's rating:
People who added this item 1746 Average listal rating (1126 ratings) 7.5 IMDB Rating 7.9
True Romance (1993)
True Romance
I've heard of a lot of different types of romance. But true romance? If you want to get cynical, it's practically an oxymoron. If you want to get simple, it just sounds cool.

Joseph Grey's rating:
People who added this item 98 Average listal rating (44 ratings) 6.2 IMDB Rating 6.3
Permanent Midnight
Putting the word 'permanent' in front of something makes it seem more... I'm not gonna say permanent. Oh shit, I just did.
People who added this item 205 Average listal rating (105 ratings) 6.4 IMDB Rating 6.1
Permanent Vacation
What would a permanent vacation be like? I'm intrigued already.
Joseph Grey's rating:
People who added this item 5286 Average listal rating (3637 ratings) 8.1 IMDB Rating 8.3
Reservoir Dogs
Is it just me, or does Quentin Tarantino like two word titles? This movie has nothing to do with dogs, or reservoirs. And yet, it still fits somehow.
Joseph Grey's rating:
People who added this item 8630 Average listal rating (6218 ratings) 8.3 IMDB Rating 8.9
Pulp Fiction (1994)
Pulp Fiction
The beginning of this movie has a dictionary definition of the word 'pulp,' and the word 'fiction.' It still doesn't explain why it's the title of the movie, but doesn't make it any less awesome.

Joseph Grey's rating:
Kill Bill

Joseph Grey's rating:
Star Wars
Yes, I realize that each of the Star Wars movies have their own separate title. But they're still called Star Wars movies, right?

Something so simple as 'Star Wars' can tell you everything you need to know. Some shit's gonna happen in space. And you're gonna like it.

Joseph Grey's rating:
People who added this item 484 Average listal rating (312 ratings) 6.9 IMDB Rating 6.9
What time is it?
Near Dark
People who added this item 6740 Average listal rating (4888 ratings) 7.1 IMDB Rating 7.4
X-Men (2000)
X-Men
Based on the popular Marvel Comics series, this title tells you exactly what it's about.

Sort of. There's women too.
Joseph Grey's rating:
Vanishing Point
Vanishing point has to do with perspective in drawing and the point at which parallel lines appear to converge. In the case of the movie, I think its purpose was to sound badass.
People who added this item 124 Average listal rating (92 ratings) 4.9 IMDB Rating 5.5
Terminal Velocity
With a title this cool, you'd think the movie would be just as cool. But not even a cool title, Charlie Sheen, or Nastassja Kinski could keep this movie from going down at 9.81 meters per secondยฒ
Joseph Grey's rating:
People who added this item 2683 Average listal rating (1708 ratings) 6.6 IMDB Rating 7
Dirty Dancing (1987)
Dirty Dancing
There a lot of different types of dance. But dirty dancing sounds the like most fun.
Joseph Grey's rating:
People who added this item 405 Average listal rating (290 ratings) 6.2 IMDB Rating 6.4
Red Dawn (1984)
Red Dawn
Kind of a double meaning going on with the title of this movie.
Joseph Grey's rating:
People who added this item 1326 Average listal rating (936 ratings) 6.8 IMDB Rating 7.3
Point Break (1991)
Point Break
Joseph Grey's rating:
People who added this item 486 Average listal rating (346 ratings) 6.2 IMDB Rating 6.7
Road House (1989)
Road House
If you're counting, that's four two word titles in a row starring Patrick Swayze. How many other two word titles was he in?
Joseph Grey's rating:
People who added this item 4619 Average listal rating (3114 ratings) 8.1 IMDB Rating 8.1
Blade Runner (1982)
Blade Runner
The title of Philip K. Dick's novel that inspired this film is 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?'

Very witty. And it's a great book. But Blade Runner just sounds so much cooler than anything else that could have been used.

Joseph Grey's rating:
People who added this item 337 Average listal rating (218 ratings) 7.7 IMDB Rating 7.8
Red River
Joseph Grey's rating:
People who added this item 514 Average listal rating (329 ratings) 6.6 IMDB Rating 6.6
The Howling (1981)
The Howling
It's no secret what this movie is about. And that's what makes the title so great. Truth in advertising.
Woodchipper Massacre
What?! There's such a thing as a woodchipper massacre?!

Joseph Grey's rating:
American History X
As you may have noticed, adding X to the title of your movie makes it sound cooler.
Joseph Grey's rating:
The X Files
I suppose you could call this one 'Fight The Future' instead, since that's technically the movie title. Fight the Future sounds pretty cool too.

I had planned on making this list months ago, but became distracted when I started making all those TV lists.

These are some of the most direct, cool sounding or ominous movie titles. Suggestions are welcome, but I'll stop before I get to 100 items.
