Slide Away



My favorite Oasis song (Though Champagne Supernova comes in a close second). Like most of the songs on the list, I love it for it's optimism, and the way Noel's voice changes on the chorus sounds absolutely blissful, fitting in with the song's theme on his lover. It's enough to make crack a smile even after I spent 3 hours crying on my bed. Then, right as the final guitar solo fades out, I slowly open my eyes and felt like I was just in paradise.

Hot Fuss's first five songs are among some of my all-time favorite songs, and while Smile Like You Mean It isn't my #1 off the album, it's definitely the one that makes me the most cheerful.

The overall feeling of nostalgia is present on the song, and while I tend to avoid nostalgic thoughts (Don't want to sink into further depression), I love the song for remembering the days, but also for letting it taking the song completely over. It tells me to stay strong when I remember the "good ol' days" and shows me how I keep growing as a person each year. It'll get the point that when I do turn 25, I'll play this song to remember how far I've come.

The Show Must Go On



My all-time favorite song. Freddie Mercury sang this song around the time he's was dying from AIDS, but he wouldn't go out softly and quietly. No. Instead, he close his band's final album with arguably their greatest song.

I love this song for it's passion, in fact, saying it has passion is a huge understatement. It just fills with excitement, and then you get down the lyrics. While I have a long way to go till I die, this is what I'm going to be played at my funeral. So, "While my making may be fading, my smile stays on". You're damn right it will Freddie, you're damn right it will :).

Champagne Supernova



I'm going to be completely honest and say that I have no idea what this song is about. I have no idea what Noel means when he sings that he's "Slowly walking down the hall/faster then a cannonball"...but Noel, in his usual asshole self more or less, "explains" the meaning.

'I don’t fucking know. But are you telling me, when you’ve got 60,000 people singing it, they don’t know what it means? It means something different to every one of them.’

Unlike most big electropop anthems, Champagne Supernova has a sense of awe and wonder to it. Even if the lyrics don't make sense, the way the song builds up to it's climax is an absolute thrill to get sucked into.

Brand New Day



Boy in Da Corner is an album filled with paranoia, and there's very few bright spots and instead filled with the darkest parts of the ghetto in Britten...but then, right after a song about how one day, you'll get stuck raising a child with a teenage girl you can actually call a cunt...Brand New Day starts.

It's a surprise because - aside from "Do It!", this is song is a direct contrast to the closed-in and paranoid production and lyrics from the rest of the album. It's a deep look at how fucked up the world around him is, but he still has optimism to back it out. I love that element because it's one that I rarely see in hip-hop. The descriptions that Dizzee does describe are messed up, but it's all put aside from just one bar, and is what I keep saying to myself when I'm stuck in the gutter:

Shoot to Thrill



If I wanted to, I could've chose any song off Back in Black. All the songs fill me with energy to the point where I feel the need to break something. This brings me to my favorite song off the album: Shoot to Thrill.

It's your standard AC/DC song: kick-ass riffs, party-hard lyrics, and a voice that you lose your voice to when trying to sing along, but couldn't care less. There's nothing positive or negative to provide me with lifelong information...and there's no need to. A song that makes people happy doesn't always need to provide philosophical advice. Sometimes, all you need is to just provide a good time for the people.

It's weird for a song that's basically three arrogant teenagers rapping about how better their lives are then yours will ever be, but that just makes it even better.

I have no idea what it is that makes the Beastie Boys so enjoyable. They're selfish, degrading, and don't give two shits what you think about them. In a way, I guess it has to do with the fact that every teenager - even the nicest ones - all have a bit of the boys in one of us. I wouldn't know anybody who'd want to live out what the Beastie Boys are living in, or even fantasize about it.

Wait a minute, why the fuck am I analyzing the Beastie Boys when I could just be enjoying myself when that guitar solo plays at the end?! Forget everything I just said and just rock out!

Last Hope



My favorite Paramore song (Which isn't saying much seeing since I have yet to hear their other albums), Last Hope takes me back to the place I still go to sometimes when I'm scared of the outside world. There's too much of a noisy crowd and paranoia is all over me. However, there will always be that one spark that can help me look for the best.

I know that not anyone is going to be around when I fall, but sometimes I need a spark to revamp my happiness. When I don't have those things around, I have this song to see for the motivation.

Albuquerque



This song is basically my entire life story...Just like my life, Albuquerque is a semi-coherent story that's overlong, has too many useless moments (WHY OH WHY DID I OPEN THAT FUCKING BOX?!), but all in all, life is really random and we'll to make it worthwhile...or, in this song's case waste my time in the best way possible. Plus, anything that takes potshots at Bio-Dome is worth my time.
