Avatar (2009)
Colonel Quatrich is a badass. This is undeniable. A grizzled veteran and fearless leader, he does everything within his power to protect the men under his command, letting the new recruits who arrive on Pandora know exactly what it takes to survive on such a hellish world. A determinator almost without equal, it is only through the intervention of a planet-wide uprising that he is stopped from eliminating the traitor Jake Sully and avenging his personal betrayal.
Shovel Justice's rating:

Broken Arrow (1996)
John Travolta plays Deakins with such evil relish that you can't help but hope he succeeds at whatever the hell his plan is. (Something involving exploding helicopters I think)
Shovel Justice's rating:

Die Hard (1988)
Hans Gruber is such a methodical, intelligent and calculating criminal (exceptional in fact) that were it not for John McClane, right now he'd be sitting on a beach, earning 20%. Being played by Alan Rickman doesn't hurt either.
Shovel Justice's rating:

Law Abiding Citizen (2009)
This one isn't quite as clear cut as the other movies on here, but I really had trouble working out who I was supposed to be rooting for. Butler's character may be an unrepentant mass murderer but the 'good guys' routinely engage themselves in shady behavior, including but not limited to making deals with murderers and trampling people's rights, in one case to do nothing but make themselves look good.
Shovel Justice's rating:

Rocky IV (1985)
More of an alternate character interpretation of Ivan Drago here, but we have no reason not to take him at his word. He tried to discourage Creed from fighting, knowing that the former champion was in mortal peril. Even after the fight, he described Creed as a 'Real Champion'. This is perhaps more praise than Creed deserves after his garish and disrespectful behaviour in the lead up to the ill-fated fight. Also of note, during his fight with Rocky, Drago loudly proclaims "I fight for me". He is not fighting for Mother Russia, or other agenda, simply for himself.
Shovel Justice's rating:

Starship Troopers (1997)
The Federation are a bunch of fascist warmongers who use an asteroid impact as the impetus to declare genocide on a species that lives on the other side of the galaxy. The bugs are simply defending themselves against the human invaders.
Shovel Justice's rating:

Street Fighter (1994)
Raul Julia. That reason alone is why this otherwise shitty shitty movie is worth watching. Such a shame that his was his last role and that he couldn't have had a better movie to star in before his unfortunate death.
Shovel Justice's rating:

Thank You for Smoking (2006)
Aaron Eckhart plays Nick Naylor, a spokesperson for a tobacco company who is damn good at what he does. A great example of a Guile Hero, he's almost talented enough to make you think that taking up smoking would be in your best interests.
Shovel Justice's rating:

X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
Magneto was right. The X-Men (such as they are) were wrong. The fact that the first thing the government did with the mutant 'cure' was weaponize it (in various different weapons and configurations no less) proves that he was right all along and the X-Men were in this case, traitors to their own kind.
Shovel Justice's rating:

Sometimes, you can't help but root for the bad guys.
