Very good set up, and execution of the saga. Sets just the right tone for an impossible task: putting The Lord Of The Rings on film! Very well done.
timbotome's rating:
The best of the trilogy. Strays from the books the least. Great action and production. Peter Jackson could not have done a better job of transfering the story to the screen. Very glad he didn't go George Lucas on it, and neuter it in a board room.
timbotome's rating:
Didn't make sense, as part of the whole story to divide it this way. But let's just take it for what it is: A hell of a film. The Ents are done very well, and the battle scene with them is fantastic.
timbotome's rating:
Desperado (1995)
Antonio Banderas is perfectly cast in this stylish, solid action pic.
timbotome's rating:
Four Rooms (1995)
Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino direct the two best "rooms". Tim Roth is hillarious throughout it all. Tarantinos' room is the last so it goes out with a bang.
timbotome's rating:
From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)
The first half sets it up to be a potential masterpiece. Then they go to the Titty Twister and it turns in to a campy vampire flick. Which is fine, but why the tease? They could've stayed with that style all the way through, and made it like Predator or Aliens. Oh well. Still essential viewing for any Rodriguez or Tarantino fan.
timbotome's rating:
Sin City (2005)
Robert Rodriguez' greatest film. The uncut version shows each film from beginning to end. The acting, dialogue, heroes, villains. Borderline masterpiece. How horrifying is Kevin?
timbotome's rating:
Planet Terror (2007)
Very entertaining Grindhouse flick. Lots of memorable lines, scenes, cameos. A great campy zombie horror action flick. Very fun.
timbotome's rating:
Machete (2010)
Pure kick ass campy action all the way through. Very entertaining. Some social commentary as well. Danny Trejo is a beast.
timbotome's rating:
"We blew it". Classic road flick is THE first indy film of its kind ever. Great performance by Jack Nicholson. Some timeless lines. Great themes about what freedom truly means.
timbotome's rating:
Not really a horror movie, but a classic, dark, Hitchcock-esque mystery thriller. Only Chinatown is a better Polanski film. Lots of build up to a marvelous climax.
timbotome's rating:
Brilliant noir mystery. Possibly Jack Nicholson's greatest performance. The way we can feel the mood and texture in every scene is great, and what Polanski excels at. Classic film.
timbotome's rating:
The Last of the Mohicans (1992)
An excellent version of the classic story. Daniel Day-Lewis is magnificent as always. The tension, drama, action all superb. It all leads up to one of my favorite ending action sequences of all time. Possibly my favorite soundtrack of all time as well.
timbotome's rating:
The warm up act for Taxi Driver should not be overlooked. It is fantastic in its own right. Harvey Keitel knows where he's going, but can't get out. DeNiro is an agent of nihlistic rage. Great movie.
timbotome's rating:
Taxi Driver (1976)
Changed film forever. A psychotic nightmare. A truly dispicable protaganist, who you can't help but have some empathy for. A dark vision of humanity from the perspective of someone who sees them at their worst. Ends in a fantastic bloodbath of cathartic rage.
timbotome's rating:
The Last Waltz (1978)
Great documentary/concert for anybody who's a fan of The Band, or rock music in general.
timbotome's rating:
Raging Bull (1980)
Beautiful, poigniant, dark, violent, classic. That is the only way to describe Raging Bull. Arguably DeNiro's greatest performance. A truly remarkable film.
timbotome's rating:
The King of Comedy (1982)
One of De Niro's greatest performances. Hilarious dark comedy, social satire about fame and celebrity obsession. Scorsese's most underrated movie.
timbotome's rating:
Doesn't get any better than this. The story, the acting, the pacing, the camera work, the editing. Almost perfect. One of my all time favorite films. You could make the argument of Taxi Driver or Raging Bull over this. But to me, Goodfellas is number 1.
timbotome's rating:
Casino (1995)
Great, epic, hardcore, gangster flick. Scorsese's bread and butter. Not perfect, and basically Goodfellas pt. 2. However, it's an absolute must for Scorsese fans.
timbotome's rating:
Gangs of New York (2002)
For such a mess behind the scenes, they were still able to salvage a very solid watchable film. Everything Daniel Day-Lewis touches is gold, so there's no surprise at his brilliant performance as Bill the Butcher. Worth seeing just for that. Otherwise, it gets bogged down with the big, epic production. Overall, worth seeing with some great moments. All involving Daniel Day-Lewis.
timbotome's rating:
Scorsese comes back to the Gangster genre with a vengeance. Modern classic, with no weak links. The energy stays red hot all the way to the blood soaked climax. Brilliant acting by DiCaprio and every one else.
timbotome's rating:
Dead Poets Society (1989)
Peter Weir's masterpiece. So many wonderful aspects to the story. Freedom, repression, poetry, passion of youth. Robin Williams gives one of his most amazing performances. A wonderful film.
timbotome's rating:
The Curse of Frankenstein (1957)
One of the greatest horror films ever made. The violence, though tame by todays' standards was unprecedented. Peter Cushing delivers a remarkable performance as Dr. Frankenstein. Beautiful goth set. Great film
timbotome's rating:
Dracula (1958)
One of the best Hammer Horror films. The first look at Christopher Lee as Dracula. Classic horror film by Terrence Fisher, with an eerie goth look, and very bloody for the time.
timbotome's rating:
Excellent beginning to the "Dollars Trilogy". Great flow, character development and score. Classic showdown at the end.
timbotome's rating:
One of the greatest films ever made. Epic, unique, original, beautiful. The tension and build up to the showdown doesn't get any better. A masterpiece.
timbotome's rating:
Epic Western masterpiece. Some consider it the greatest Western ever made. Hard to argue. The beauty. The slow pacing. Not for the ADD generation. Leone in his top form.
timbotome's rating:
A classic, epic tale of possibly the most ruthless, sociopathic protaganists ever put on film. Very long, but completely absorbs you in. No director can shoot such beautiful scenes, with such ugly characters as Sergio Leone. My second favorite of his films behind The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
timbotome's rating:
Alien 3 (1992)
Not a great film. Very bad David Fincher film. Does have its moments though. Fits in decently enough to Alien trilogy.
timbotome's rating:
Seven (1995)
Up there with "Silence Of The Lambs" as the one of the greatest horror/thrillers of all time. A true classic. The pacing, and character development is amazing. The ending is one twisted mindfuck.
