Fallout 2 - PC Games
This is great example of almost perfect roleplaying/adventure game. Very long lasting game with lots of different ways and choices to play it thru. Large world map, interesting story, great athmostphere with post-apocalyptic world and loads of things to do.. list goes on. Replayability value 10+

Jagged Alliance 2 - PC Games
Nice blend of strategy and adventure. You hire the group of mercs you want to take down a dictator in an island. Along with this you also make your own character that adds some roleplaying values to the game. Along creation you can add points to certain skills, but special skills and personality comes out of the "question-answer"-style quiz. This game includes loads of weapons, modifications to them, different characters and side-missions. Also has alot replayability value.
dungeoncrawler's rating:
Heroes of Might and Magic III - PC Games
Build up your cities, create armies and wipe out your enemies. Propably my favourite turn based strategy game. HOMM succeeds to blend in some RPG and adventure elements. Mainly cause you control your armies with heroes, which gain experience and special skills at battles. And while moving around the map you encounter different events and groups monsters. Loads of special items, experience points and other rewards spice this game up alot and keep things interesting. Still great game today!
dungeoncrawler's rating:
Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn - PC Games
Propably the best and most large AD&D-style RPG to exist 'till today. Replayability value 10+ and awesome still today.
dungeoncrawler's rating:
Fallout - PC Games
First part of this post-apocalyptic RPG/Adventure.
As good as the second, but way shorter. Still highly recommended, complete this first and then go for the Fallout II!
dungeoncrawler's rating:
Planescape: Torment - PC Games
Another great RPG/adventure game. I wish they still made games like these. You wake up in a crypt, not remembering who you are, and not knowing whether you are dead or alive. Are you in hell? This game is quite remiscent of Fallout series, just different theme, and just as good! You have many ways of doing things to keep things interesting.
Replayability value 10+
dungeoncrawler's rating:
Second part of HOMM series.
Almost as good as the part III, just little less of everything, and little different kind of graphics. Great game!
dungeoncrawler's rating:
Delta Force 2 - PC Games
My favourite FPS, still play it sometimes though this was released in 1998. At that time the game was imo quite revolutionary for having long range open field battles. Ofcourse DF1 had this too but DF2 made everything better. Gameplay is so great and DF-series never came close after.
Although not many different weapons in this game, gameplay just kicks ass: simple, effective and loads of fun. Killing enemy long range is rewarding as is running a kilometer to capture enemy's "money flag"(most important) successfully in capture the flag.
dungeoncrawler's rating:
Super Mario Kart - Super famicom and SNES
Mario goes karting. This game was so much fun once, unfortunately I dont own Super Nintendo anymore. Gameplay rocked and split screen with a friend playing thru a tournament was awesome. All characters drive differently. Theres nothing like seeing your friend closing you by at last lap, successfully dropping a banana-peel in front of him and seeing him spin around!
dungeoncrawler's rating:
Fallout 3 - Xbox 360
So Bethesda continued Fallout-series and while they kept some things loyal to the brand like overall theme, they changed the game from top-down-view to 3rd person FPS.
Not necassarily a bad thing, at least they didn't repeat the earlier parts too much. They made the game more like Oblivion in post-apocalyptic world. I would call this game successfull one on its own, although not quite loyal to the older parts. Its very good FPS/RPG/Adventure mix with quite much depth within story and lots of things to do. Fallout III has its good and bad. As good sides, the game is long enought and has alot to do, many items and rewards to keep things interesting and fine character development. As bad I think some areas in the game are quite boring or uninspired. The whole wasteland could be more interesting and subway-areas are a mess. At some parts landscape would need more variation and different events. Still fun game to play!
dungeoncrawler's rating:
The third part of Elder Scrolls-gameseries is much smaller and part two, seemingly, but the game area is much more action packed. While part II-Daggerfall still stands propably as one of largest RPG games due game area, most of it was emtpy space and random generated repetitive dungeons, repetitive towns and so on. Don't get me wrong either, Morrowind is still LARGE. Propably the best Elder Scrolls game overall, nice character creation and development and loads of different items and quests. Story is also more interesting here than what would come with part IV. One of my favourite 1st person view-roleplaying games.
dungeoncrawler's rating:
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Xbox 360
More of the same than Morrowind with some changes. Minor annoyances trouble part IV. The story is not as catching as in Morrowind. Enemies scale to your level undependant of which dungeon or enemy you encounter. This means that rats are similar whether you are level 1 or 10, and you can kill a minotaur at level 1 as good as level 10. This also makes seeking tougher dungeons for challenge at earlier in game quite pointless since they are basically all quite same level, because they "scale up with your level". Dungeons also look too much the same and theres no enought different dungeon themes. Landscape could have more intereting places and events that stood out. Other than that Oblivion is also large game by content, is fun to play and has loads of items and quests to do. Very good.
dungeoncrawler's rating:
Forza Motorsport 3 - Xbox 360
Despite its lackluster in some areas, like career mode which is just OK, the game mechanics are great! Driving is fun, feels right and theres plenty of cars to choose from. Also tuning cars keeps things interesting. Good thing they implemented split screen mode to this, cause playing with friends is great fun. My favourite modern racer.
dungeoncrawler's rating:
Sid Meier's Civilization IV - PC Games
I suppose everyone knows whats this game about. Build your own civilization from the beginning of time and rule the world. You can develop by following various paths like military, or be a peacefull ruler and choose economy for example. Turn based game with random landscape generator and different ways to win guarantee replayability value.
dungeoncrawler's rating:
X-COM: Apocalypse - PC Games
I remember hearing varying opinions of this third part of X-COM games. I myself loved it. While graphics kinda sucked, the game system itself was gold. There was so much to do in the game. You were in control of anti-alien corporation X-COM. You have your headquarters, you hire the troops who gain experience, and buy battle vehicles like tanks. You could find out which corporations were under alien influence and attack their basements by yourself, or wait random alarms, or get your own headquarters attacked. Developing weapons and researching alien tech was rewarding. There was first off the city view where you see isometric view of whole city, there you can get into ufo-encounter and shoot them down by your army, or get into war with other corporations. Then there was the view from inside buildings in the missions, where most of the game events happen. There you would equip your troops with different guns and take down the alien forces. So basically there was this corporation-management/research/development-part, then cityview battles and as last within buildings-battles parts. I just liked how this game works and how deep it is with everything.
dungeoncrawler's rating:
StarCraft - PC Games
Classic real-time-strategy game. Best fun playing online I think. This game is like perfection of basic RTS-game: nicely balanced races and fun gameplay.
dungeoncrawler's rating:
SoulCalibur IV - PlayStation 3
Fun fightning game, while I like Streetfighter characters more, the game mechanics here work almost perfectly. 3d view and possibility to knock out your opponent from the field is rewarding. Controls play really well, waiting for the part V.
dungeoncrawler's rating:
Thief II: The Metal Age - PC Games
The second Thief game brings pretty much more the same than first. Just a little bit more polished. You sneak your way thru missions and achieve certain goals like stealing treasures, whether the place was a crypt or mansion. Silence and shadows are your friends, and sword is your backup. You control lights by shutting the torches with water arrows, and foodstep-sounds by shooting moss-arrow to soften up the floor. Athmosphere in Thief I and II is just great and gameplay is much fun. Looking Glass really created some great games!
dungeoncrawler's rating:
Thief: The Dark Project - PC Games
Original Thief and just as good as the second. Should play these again sometime. Just hated the friggin zombies who wont like to die..! Luckily second part has more human-levels and less zombies :P
dungeoncrawler's rating:
Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven - PC Games
Pretty simple RPG where you create four characters of your liking and start the game. Game is viewed in 1st person view only, so you kinda move with all 4 characters at once. Combat is simple, you press button and hit, whoever of the characters is ready to hit - hits. Hitting rate depends of characters speed. Theres also quite nice selection of different spells. The game is pretty much 1st person hack'n'slash with loads of enemies packed in groups standing around landscape. Graphics are quite poor 3d that werent top notch even when game was released. Still this game has the magic, something that keeps me playing it. Theres quite many items and character development is nice and rewarding as is completing quests and getting rewards. This is one of those games that are quite repetitive, don't look good and still theres something in the game that keeps you wanting more.. maybe it's that game rewards you well.
dungeoncrawler's rating:
Sid Meier's Civilization II - PC Games
Civ II is little simpler than higher ranked part IV. Though dated, the game stands test of time still today. Its matter of preference whether you like this or the newer ones better cause theyre both very good.
dungeoncrawler's rating:
System Shock 2 - PC Games
Great FPS that spices up the game with some RPG elements like character's developing skills. Creators of the game really succeeded creating haunting athmosphere and interesting levels here. If you like FPS that has been spiced up by certain elements to another level check this out!
dungeoncrawler's rating:
MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries - PC Games
This is nostalgia and I dont think the game has quite stood the test of time, but at the time Mechwarrior 2 was released it was awesome. 1st person view controlling your mech felt great. There was nicely many different mechs to buy and customize and gameplay worked almost perfectly. The game mechanics were nicely done so that you could shoot off mech's leg or arm etc.
dungeoncrawler's rating:
Battlefield 2 - PC Games
One of the most fun FPS's with large maps, possibility to use vehicles or run by foot. This game's lots of fun, I do prefer this over Call of Duties any day though Modern Warfare 2 is fun.
dungeoncrawler's rating:
Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor - PC Games
Part seven in M&M series. If I remember correctly this one is larger than Mandate of Heaven. More of the same than before, not much has changed here. These are the games you either love or hate. I was really hooked to this once.
dungeoncrawler's rating:
The Sims 2 - PC Games
Life simulation?
Theres much fun to do in this game and I think its relaxing game to play and fool around with.
dungeoncrawler's rating:
Realms of Arkania III: Shadows over Riva - PC Games
I don't think many people know this RPG, but you should check it out. If you can manage to find it you can still play it today. Graphics are just ok, but the content is quite large. Character creation in this game is very complex I think but also rewarding. The game is also good at presenting that your character choices DO matter. What this game succeeds to bring up is many non-battle events where your characters skills and stats actually affect happenings. The game itself starts by creating bunch of characters, and you move them in 1st person view all by once. When battle starts its top-down view and you move your characters turn-based one by one. While this may not be the best of all RPG's around, it just has this special feeling. If you dig older RPG's i recommend seeking this one out! While Might and Magic-series are simple quick tempo hack'n'slash games, Realms of Arkania presents more complex and deep type of 1st person RPG.
dungeoncrawler's rating:
The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall - PC Games
This game is here for nostalgia reasons. In reality is comes nowhere near Morrowind and Oblivion as whole. Daggerfall by game-area is large as hell. But so big part of its area is empty space and random dungeons, which by the way pretty much suck due they are really oversized mazes that repeat themselves so bad. Once you go in, prepare to spend hour to find your way out. Towns are also repetitive. Theres still some kind of magic in this game for me. Maybe its just the overall idea they had of creating this game so large, I respect that though they didn't quite succeed. Spell creation is quite cool and theres aplenty to choose from. Character development is quite good. The atmosphere in the game is also quite good. I remember when I played this game around 97, the dungeons felt damn creepy, especially those damn skeletons who kept screaming all over the maze. You could explore anything, like hundreds of towns and dungeons and so on.
Good idea, random generator wasn't just highly developed enought at the time. Still nostalgia 10+
dungeoncrawler's rating:
Super Mario Bros. 3 - Famicom and NES
The classic platformer! World maps and different kind of worlds plus nice level design made this game rock! Controls were also perfection.
dungeoncrawler's rating:
Mega Man 2 - Famicom and NES
Propably the best Mega Man. Oh the nostalgia!
Mega Man 2 has some of the best game music to create athmosphere. Different end-bosses per level were great idea in the game series, plus getting the boss's equipment to use when finishing him. Also every boss had his own themed level design which added nice touch. Another classic platformer.
dungeoncrawler's rating:
My favourite games of all times.
A few are nostalgic but I basically have tried to select those that also stand the test of time. Any console.
Note that these are not best games of all times, they are just best games that I myself have played.
