This is a great testiment to the RTS world. It has exellent missions, awesome troops, and so much you can do. There is not much that can top sending 100 soldiers to take down a Zerg base. One of my favorite RTSs.

The best strategy game ever!!!!

Quite Amusing, For Several Of Your Earth-Hours

Another one of those Best Games Of All Time that I thought was kinda so-so. Although I did like the mission where all you had to do was defend a fixed position (your base) for a set time (30 minutes, I think). Yeah I know, heresy, heresy--bite me.

....

Actually, alot of these empire-style games where you had to have your base ready to defend an initial attack within ... read more

Description: In the distant future, a small group of human exiles have been doomed to fight for survival on the edge of the galaxy. Through military strength, espionage, and deceit, a unified Terran government has maintained an uneasy peace. But a previously unknown species, the Zerg, had started overrunning their colonies. A second alien species, the enigmatic Protoss, came intent on stopping the Zerg. However the Protoss solution is to extinguish all life on the Zerg-infested planets, including many Terrans. At the same time, rebel factions within the Terran government are gaining popular support during the Zerg crisis. The time for war ha ... (more)

“Tassadar fue concebido como un “Jedi trágico”

Los guionistas se inspiraron en los Caballeros Jedi de Star Wars para crear a los Templarios Protoss.

333 / 5,000

Tassadar was conceived as a "tragic Jedi."

The writers drew inspiration from the Jedi Knights in Star Wars to create the Protoss Templars.

Tassadar embodies the archetype of the wise rebel, willing to break the law for a higher truth.

His final sacrifice was one of the most moving moments in video games in the 1990s.” read more

“The Zerg are based on real biological concepts.

Their design was inspired by parasites, social insects, and mutant organisms.

The concept of "genetic assimilation" comes from evolutionary theories and films like Alien and The Thing.

Their grotesque appearance was intended to simultaneously repel and fascinate the player.” read more

“Sarah Kerrigan, the Queen of Blades, was inspired by Lady Macbeth.

Kerrigan's story arc (from betrayed heroine to avenging and tyrannical queen) is inspired by tragic female characters like Lady Macbeth and Medusa.

She was also one of the first complex and powerful female characters in video games, defining an era.” read more

“The Koprulu sector has biblical and philosophical roots.

The names of several planets and figures have symbolic meanings:

Aiur (home of the Protoss) is associated with the Hebrew word "illumination."

Kerrigan comes from the Gaelic "Ciarán," meaning "dark" or "son of darkness."

Tassadar has Persian resonances, linked to "guardian" or "wisdom-bringer."” read more

“Terran Marines use humorous phrases inspired by war and science fiction films ("Hell, it's about time!").

The Marine's voice was recorded by Chris Metzen, one of the game's lead writers and designers.

Many Zerg were created with real animal sound effects mixed with human roars.

Protoss voices have an artificial echo to sound more "psionic" and majestic.” read more

“StarCraft transcends its game-like nature to become a parable of the universal condition:

war not as a physical event, but as a conflict between philosophies, beliefs, and natures.

Each race embodies a fundamental principle:

The Terrans: imperfect freedom and the cost of individuality.

The Zerg: total biological unity, the denial of self for survival.

The Protoss: the spiritual quest, the dilemma between faith, reason, and destiny.

Their confrontation is a metaphor for a universe where biological evolution and morality run in opposite directions, and where survival does not always mean the victory of the soul.” read more

“The Zerg: Biology as a Tool of Destiny

The Zerg are the antithesis of human thought.

They constitute a hive mind, a perfect biological network where individuals do not exist, only functions, where life and death have no meaning outside of the collective purpose.

Guided by the Overmind, the Zerg represent absolute evolution, an obsession with the assimilation of all useful life.

Their goal is not conquest by power, but by genetic necessity: to achieve perfection through the fusion of the strongest, the purest, the most adaptable.

Their nature contains an extreme Darwinian echo—"only the best survive"—but also a disturbing philosophical undertone:

the idea that individuality may be the greatest obstacle to universal survival.read more

“StarCraft is set in the distant future, when humanity has expanded beyond the solar system, driven by a desire for expansion, a need for resources, and a desire for dominance.

In this colonization process, the Koprulu sector—a distant and forgotten region of the galaxy—becomes the stage for one of the most momentous wars in the known universe.

There, three antagonistic races not only compete for territory or power, but also represent three opposing visions of existence itself.

Best real-time strategy game ever!

“StarCraft is a real-time strategy game (RTS) set in the early 26th century in the Koprulu Sector at the edge of our galaxy. The balance of power is a stake as three of the most powerful species in the Universe go head-to-head. The nomadic Terrans, brutal Zerg, and stalwart Protoss each seek the ultimate prize: survival of their species and domination of the galaxy. This game is truly a milestone in RTS development. The graphics are great, play control is intuitive, and the storyline is top notch. Blizzard Entertainment takes an interesting approach by telling the story from the perspective of each race in three separate acts. Thus, the events from Act I (Terrans) are then referred to from the other side in Act II (Zerg) and are acted upon. All in all, this game is worth its weight in gold!” read more
