Lyrics That Inspire Me

Damien Rice causes shivers down my spine when I hear his songs. Something about them are oddly breathtaking, though the lyrics are quite simple. Somehow, you can tell there is some deeper meaning behind it.

The Blower's Daughter:
"I can't take my eyes off you

The Moment I Said It:
"Trust me on this one,
I've got a bad feeling.
Trust me on this one,
You're gonna throw it all away
With no hesitation."

I heard this one at a Winter Guard Show, but it always stuck with me. It has a haunting tone to it and the style is very different, a bit indescribable. I, however, very much enjoy this song, but I haven't heard anything else by her.

How to Save a Life:
"Let him know that you know best,
'Cause after all you do know best.
Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence."


Cliche, I know, but the first time I heard this song, I cried.

French songs from a girl with the most adorable voice and cutest melodies. They can always brighten up my day.

Comme des Enfants:
"Mais il m'aime encore, et moi je t'aime un peu plus fort."

C'était Salement Romantique:
"J'ai tenté de voler loin de toi."

MCR's usual songs involve the regular vampires, dead things, etc. that all good rock bands like theirs need. This song, though, stood out in an album of theirs I would have probably thrown away.

I Don't Love You:
"Well, when you go
Don't ever think I'll make you try to stay
And maybe when you get back
I'll be off to find another way."

Lady Gaga's not known for her soul-inspiring lyrics. Heck, she's not even that well known for her music. Most people focus on her choice of clothing, but after an evening with The Fame Monster, I found this absolutely amazing song.

Speechless:
"And after all the boys and girls that we’ve been through
Would you give it all up; Could you give it all up?
If I promise, boy, to you?"

Human:
"And I'm on my knees
Looking for the answer
Are we human?
Or are we dancer?"

For some odd reason, this is the only track I remember off that entire CD.

Labels and Love:
"And Prada dresses never broke my heart before."

Out of one of the WORST movies I have ever seen was a song that pretty much defined me as a person. Every time I hear that line, it makes me giggle.

The Fear:
"And I'll take my clothes off and it will be shameless
'Cuz everyone knows that's how you get famous."

A perfect little song for the type of world we are living in. It put into words exactly what it takes to strike rich, get famous, and be loved.

I have much respect for P!nk. Not only does she consistently put out fantastic music, but also she looks damn good doing it. I've loved her songs since I was a little girl.

Just Like a Pill:
"And I swear you're just like a pill.
Instead of makin' me better, you keep makin' me
ill."

Maroon 5 has been put into pretty much every movie and TV show soundtrack that was worth anything. They got old quickly, but I can't deny that their songs will always make me sing along.

Sunday Morning:
"I don’t mind spending everyday
Out on your corner in the pouring rain."

She Will be Loved:
"Come and rest your bones with me,
Driving slow on sunday morning
And I never want to leave."

In real life, John Mayer seems like kind of a douche-bag. He's pretty much slept with every girl whose ever been in Star magazine, but his songs make him seem like a sensitive-musician-type.

Dreaming With a Broken Heart:
"Do I have to fall asleep with roses in my hands?"

Collide: "Even the best fall down sometimes
Even the wrong words seem to rhyme."

This is the only song I've ever heard from Howie Day, but I'm still in love with it regardless.

Everyone loves Beyonce. She's the best diva the world could wish for. Here is a song that makes me feel egotistical and damn proud of it.

Irreplaceable:
"I'll have another you by tomorrow,
So don't you ever for a second get to thinking you're irreplaceable."

Midnight Train to Georgia:
"I'd rather live in his world
Than live without him in mine."

Old but beautiful song. It's been remade my American Idol so many times, I forgot what the original sounded like. Of course, Gladys sings it much better.

RENT Seasons of Love:
"Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
How do you measure, measure a year?

In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights
In cups of coffee
In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife."

A song, and a musical, that really touched me. The first time I saw it, I was too young to understand the meanings behind it. Now that I look back, this song embodies anyone's life and how he or she chooses to view it.
