This was a perfect example of 80s horror imho

Pros. fast paced, entertaining and a bit weird

Cons. Abysmal acting, really terrible in places, lacking any genuine scares, half assed effects, almost zero character motivation

Apart from the final scene there really isnt that much for horror fans in this one. Yes its kind of amusing and the film does get better as it progresses.

My biggest problem is that the twist is not really used in much context. Apart from the image at the end the film doesnt really need it at all and it just comes across as a gimmick

5 people in a winnebago are travelling in Arizona when they see a weird light formation and accidentally crash while avoiding a pick-up truck stopped in the road. One of the men is seriously injured and neither vehicle can start. As they get more desparate they start to see things in the night.


Not bad. Not bad at all. It starts off a bit crap with the 2 couples talking about sex and it all looks like a tv movie in terms of production. The action never really stops and at least there is something happening thats interesting throughout, however stupid it actually is. There are some dopey momemts in this one. The atmosphere gets better and the few attempts at jumspcares and creepiness actually start to work in the second half - I even jumped twice - I dont know why people criticise jumpscares as they are just one weapon in a horror makers arsenal so why not use them? The ending is a bit creepy and almost a direct lift from Fire In The Sky but without the attention to sheer creepiness and believability of the effects

Worth a one time watch

This film is basically a faux documentary/drama regarding alien abductions in a small Alaskan town. A psychiatrists husband dies and she returns to work and encounters a group of people who are having the same experience - being watched by an owl at night.After one hypnosis session a patient commits suicide...

Hmmm. I dont know what to make of this really. Its quite intelligent and well made. I think the style is quite unique that you have fake documentary stuff within a fake dramatisation...so at times we see the same event through the documentary and the dramatisation. There are a few attempts at scares and creepiness but they didnt work for me...though the end credits are worth seeing well hearing as we have (fake) emergency calls about UFOs and that was kinda interesting. Lead actress Milla Jovovich does not have the acting chops to pull off this too.

TBH I think the film would have been better shot entirely as fake documentary as every thing is more low key. As it is it comes across as some sort of film experiment or project with nothing much to recommend

I saw The Innocents last night and I was quite impressed.

The basic plot - A woman starts a new job as a governess to 2 children the nephew and niece of a wealthy businessman who frankly cannot be bothered to look after them. When she arrives at the estate she tries to make friends with the children. Later she finds out the former governess died and the children begin to act weird when an unknown man appears.

Being an old black and white film there are no real effects or gore so it all relies on plot acting and atmosphere. Thankfully it delivers fairly well. Deborah Kerr gives a nice controlled performance as the governess and the child actors are pretty creepy as the niece and nephew. The location looked great with some weird looking statues. The cinematography is great in places and the director Jack Clayton knows how to pick up the pace at the end and use the primitive effects to great use

Even though its not a wtf-type movie at all nor that mysterious it is quite ambiguous

One of the best old horrors I have seen, similar in vein to The Haunting

This is a low budget fairly predictable horror though it does get more pleasurably twisty at the end. It feels like a well shot tv movie and being an indie affair there are NO star names. The lead actress though IS a find imho and looks like a mix of Shelly Duvall and Jessica Love Hewitt - kind of weird, ugly and beautiful at the same time. I liked her.., a LOT.

being low budget it had to concentrate on plot and performance rather than effects which sadly were a let down. IMHO the biggest detraction was the sound effects

Worthwhile

this was a re-watch and I had seen this many years ago.

Threads is a semi-fiction/documentary film detailing a nuclear war and showing the build-up to such an event and its impact on lives of several people in Sheffield, England.

It takes a fairly neutral view and I believe it was well researched as to the likely effects basically 10 years of hell for the survivors

It was not as harrowing as I recall, some moments were grisly and others a bit pathetic - a woman giving birth on Christmas day for example. The effects though low budget were effective

More utterly bleak than scary or horrific. One aspect I would have liked to have seen would have been from the priviliged survivors and the authority. We did see it in a small way with the local councillors working from a cellar, but I mean the elite.

Worth watching

The brother of a recently dead man joins the dead man's widow and her daughter...and people start to disappear

I just found this film frustrating. Its enjoyable but it throws in arty shots and conceits just for the sake of it spoiling the flow of action. Take away the cinematography and the plot is practically paper thin

With better editing and sticking to the point I would rate it a 9

As a little tongue in cheek look at old horror its ok but never really goes beyond being just competent

This low budget horror started differently and was almost a mix of found footage and police stuff then it descended into a standard zombie flick. Its shot well , the acting is largely ok and the effects are surprisingly good for its budget...BUT it doesnt offer anything new to the genre

Gorehounds may enjoy this film a lot - I found it lacking

A detective who investigated multiple killings at a hospital attends a screening of the suspected killers movie

I think this is a subgenre of horror - the film within a film and the character/ come to life from the film. It plays out well and is almost a copy of Demons or Coming Soon

This was too slow but very well acted. The structure is good as we see how the dead girl is linked with various people in her life.

Apart from the opening sequence its not at all scary and its more of a realistic drama/tragedy

This plays out a bit like a Euro version of Mad Max - well it IS a German film. The look is fine - all saturated bleached and dirty looking and the final act is okay but doesnt have anything really to rise it into the great/good area

A 14 year old girl is murdered by a local man and her ghost seeks to stay connected with her grieving family

This was basically a cliched story of a killer but its taken from the victims point of view and at no time do we get to see or experience anything that unexpected - the killer is some nerdy loner, the victim is an innocent sweet girl, the cops are useless, the father seeks revenge...

The fantasy bits are excellent and there is a real sense of joy and otherworldliness, and there are moments of suspense but its never really that scary or horrifying despite the subject matter. Its a bit too long imho and with a lame ending too

This was a fast paced straight forward creature feature directed by one of the guys who made Blair Witch Project and is in a totally different vein. Well done in the main and the ending comes a little out of nowhere but is suitably explosive. Oh it also has quite a bit of gore and ickiness

A mother and her teenage daughter move into a new home where the next door house had 2 murders 4 years ago. The daughter becomes involved with the son who is living at the house

This had excellently executed jumpscares and is basically a thriller. Its a shame they did not develop the relationship between the daughter and son as it would have provided more emotional gravity

Watchable but suffered from the horror cliche that the "evil" was unstoppable at the end

This was good but too long - the basic premise that they are trapped in a time loop is shown early and the rest of the film is going through the motions. Also its never explained WHY Jess would have to kill the others to escape the time loop

It was clever , well made and well acted though and would have made an excellent short film as part of an anthology...at feature length its just a little too much

This film is a slow burning psychological type more reliant on atmosphere and creepiness than gore or jumpscares.

This was a good attempt at a film but suffered from the solution being telegraphed within 5 minutes of the start of the film We see the Three Billy Goats Gruff book so we just know that there will be some form of evil in the nearby tunnelPlus towards the end it becomes a bit blase and mechanical when the younger sister solves the mystery of the disappearances and tries to get her sister back

Overall this film is worth watching but do not expect greatness...oh and ignore the dvd cover shown it makes it look like some cheesy Drag Me To Hell type of flick

just bizarre - I can imagine this being very weird and creepy for the late 60s and this is just begging for a 2000s remake which would do it justice

A boy with an acute fear of the dark is left at home with his elder brother and spend a night in the dark alone

This was enjoyable stuff but it could have been made in the 80s - it has that kind of retro feel - ignore the cheese and have a good time

This offers nothing new and not even well executed enough to rise from its flaws.

In terms of scares I would say there are none but a few moments of excitement in the last 15 minutes

This was kind of creepy with Barbara Steele in turns both sympathetic and fucked-up. The final reveal is a bit obvious and a bit of an anti-climax. Anyway worth watching for the weird relationships throughout and atmosphere

For some reason I had downloaded this flick with no idea why...so I watched it last night.

Hmmm. A young American woman visits Chile with her friend and becomes distraught when her friend has to leave for a day or two and the girl is stuck with men who start behaving more cruel and obscene with her.

I liked this a LOT, there is lots of tension and the acting is great. Michael Cera is perfectly cast as some annoying, nerdy, asshole. I just did NOT really get the ending as it seemed so flat.

A man escapes from prison and sets about getting revenge on men that framed him...he meets a fellow inmates and his wife who can somehow shrink creatures and humans and use them as mindless dolls

Well this film was quite good fun and I was pleasantly surpised at how good the special effects were for the time.
Maureen O Sullivan looked suitably freaky and "mad scientist"

Nicely done Brit horror sort of Insidious meets The Woman In Black, a bit of creepiness and a few jumpscares....similar in fact to The Innkeepers even to the extent of someone dying through an asthma attack

Nice of the filmmakers to actually try and explain things...ambiguity can be very annoying at times

The biggest fault IMHO is that the lead female character seems too forward and modern for a woman in the 1920s

Worth your time

Nice confident horror flick which spends time in setting up the situation and characters only marred really by a woefully poor understanding of asthma and an ambiguous ending - very good atmosphere though and just a little but different

Well this re-boot is a mixed bag - It LOOKS great and the teen characters are not that annoying and the angle of the story is different BUT everything thats done here was done far better in the original..an example - when the evil spirit is released by reading the words from the Necronomicon we get the view of it as per the original but the sound effects are really lacking in dread or evil. The director does not have Sam Raimi's flair. I suppose the film is a more "realistic" take on the original film. Interesting but lacking in scares.

asians/schools/ghosts/suicides - this felt more like a drama than anything else

Really well acted and for a change each character seems rounded and likeable - Nice to see a Jewish angle on things.

Oh when the possessed girl checks her throat and she sees fingers coming out is one of the creepiest things I have seen

Largely solid if predictable Asian ghost story anthology

Somewhere between Donnie Darko, Identity, The Usual Suspects and The Breakfast Club is this film

Hugely enjoyable but not likely to stand up to any probing of its logic

When the Asians combine art, storytelling and just fresh angles to old genres they cannot be beat. Its truly a piece of art in places.

A great movie only let down imho by 2 things 1 - it steals the string sounds used in Psycho and 2 - the ending is unnecessarily in the mindfuck territory which I feel wasn't even needed

More of an extremely violent revenge story than a horror - the main trouble is that the lead good guy is a cipher and its left to the main bad guy to steal the show - If you ignore the absurdity of it then its an enjoyable and bloody film

wow this is the best WTF type of movie I have ever seen, Its like watching a live action version of a Bugs Bunny cartoon as its so energetic and just unhinged- David Lynch should be forced to watch this movie everyday so he can learn how its really done
