Basically your typical "uplifting" family story, but quite well done. The cast brings an incredible amount of emotion to the film, which makes the film a lot better than most in the genre and director Juan Antonio Bayona is never overplays his hand.

Intriguing, yet disappointing. It's effectively subtle and creepy, but it's too short. Just when things start to get moving, it ends. The cast is great though, with Wasikowska and Goode doing some of the best work of their careers.

Pretty much the definition of "so bad it's good." To it's credit though, the action is fun.

Stray Observation: There's a lot of homoerotic tension between Bennett and Matrix, even for an action movie. I feel like there's some unresolved relationship drama between them.

What a waste. The tone is all over the place; it wants to a comedy, horror, action, and parody without ever committing to any of them. The story is a mess, and the direction too. Arterton is fine, but Renner just seems miscast. The only real plus here is the makeup, which is admittedly solid.
