Alien (1979)
"Alien" created a more comprehensive and atmospheric vision of space, space-travel, and the daily life and surroundings of space-travelers than any film before or since... And then added killer aliens. A fantastic film, one of my all-time favorites, and "Aliens" made good on all its promise.

Aliens (1986)
With the table so eloquently set, "Aliens" declares that it's time to eat! The cuisine tastes every bit as good as it looks and smells. Bravo!

The Godfather (1972)
Coppola's The Godfather is every bit the masterpiece most people claim. Shot and told with absolute and utter confidence, the final result is essentially flawless. So seldom have we been invited into a world so rich, intimate, foreign, and familiar than that of the Corleone family. No matter how many times I watch it I'm still mesmerized. It's a film that truly has a life of its own.
Xanadon't's rating:

The Godfather: Part II (1974)
The debate over which is the superior film will rage forever. Personally I don't feel part II quite measures up, but it's a fully satisfying, engaging, and strong continuation of the original film.
Xanadon't's rating:

Star Wars (1977)
What an amazing world. One of the original reasons I love film.
Xanadon't's rating:

The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Even better than the first. Poor "Return of the Jedi" didn't stand a chance.
Xanadon't's rating:

The Terminator (1984)
Though a little dated, I still love the story behind this film. A solid, even classic, Sci-Fi adventure.
Xanadon't's rating:

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
What an amazing tribute to everything that was great about the original. It took seven years, but I think most people would wait 17 for a sequel this good. Possibly the best pure sequel ever created in the way it outshined the original, could easily stand alone, but also in how it resurrected the first film from a foot-note fate.
Xanadon't's rating:

Before Sunrise (1995)
Richard Linklater is among the best at the 24hr story. Strong performances, a fresh script, and a solid ear for emotional truth make this a thoroughly enjoyable film.
Xanadon't's rating:

Balls. That's what Peter Jackson has for taking on this project. Perhaps the only thing more epic about the J.R.R. Tolkein masterpiece is the fandom that surrounds it. And he hit it out of the park. Modern adventure blockbusters aren't supposed to be this good.
Xanadon't's rating:

The scope of this project, the months of location shooting, the giant cast, the armies of extras, the thousands of tons of make-up, latex, costume pieces, the sheer extravaganza of it all astounds me. Jackson finally got the best director Oscar he deserved upon release of the series' conclusion.
Xanadon't's rating:

The Evil Dead (1981)
Classic. Funny, gruesome, joyous romp through the zombie genre.
Xanadon't's rating:

Evil Dead II (1987)
Fans demanded it and they got it. Not only kept things fresh, but somehow found ways to improve upon the original.
Xanadon't's rating:

Batman Returns (1992)
The best in the series, Burton made the film he wanted to make and it paid off.
Xanadon't's rating:

Go all 12 rounds with these great original films and their follow-ups that definately didn't disappoint. In several cases the sequal proved to be even stronger.
