Made by the team behind the Carry On movies, this isn't a typical laugh a minute comedy you expect from them but instead has a bit of a serious tone to it. It's about a group of men confined to a sanitorium because they have TB. Until they get better and have walked around a patch of daffodils twice they are stuck there indefinitely. There are laughs to be had here but it is tinged with a touch of pathos. There's an excellent cast in the movie from Donald Sinden as an RAF skirt chasing officer to a loudmouth Welsh miner in Donald Huston and Carry on regular Kenneth Williams. If you're a fan of any of these actors you'll enjoy it but don't go into it expecting to be splitting your sides with laughter because it's not that type of movie.

An astonishing documentary by Peter Jackson about WWI told through the narrative of the soldiers who fought in it. What Jackson has achieved is nothing short of brilliant - he not only managed to restore and repair old B&W film but has transformed it by colourising the footage. It shows a different perspective of things when seen in colour and gives a vivid impression of how life was on the Western Front. I loved hearing the selected testimonies of the many hundreds of soldiers that took part in the campaign (this apparently took place in the 60's and 70's when most of them were still alive). For Jackson to have professional lip readers painstakingly review all the footage to allow the viewer to then know and hear what was being said truly brought the footage to life. I highly recommend this movie to everyone so that we never forget the sacrifices they made for our freedom.

The 3rd and last in the Spud trilogy isn't a patch on the other two movies. It's not up to standard and there's not a lot of antics with the Crazy 8 gang but instead it concentrates more on Spud's family. The story is also a little repetitive if you've seen the other movies, with the usual romantic liaisons, spliffs, alcohol and school plays. Not even John Cleese as The Guv gets some good lines this time round. A shame that this movie limps to a crappy conclusion as I really enjoyed the previous two. It seems unlikely that the 4th book which end's Spud's tale will be made into a movie.

This movie based on the story of the most haunted mansion in America isn't bad but it doesn't seem to quite deliver on it's setup. With a few tweaks this could've been a very successful slow burn, gothic ghost story. The cinematography is very atmospheric. The acting is good and there's a few scary moments. A marked over-reliance on jump scares got a little tedious. I really don't think they took as much advantage of the location as they could've. The portrayal of Sarah Winchester by Helen Mirren as the tortured, guilt ridden ghost appeaser falls short to be honest. For what it was, it was entertaining. I just don't think it fulfilled it's potential.

A disappointing horror movie set in India about a couple who lost their son in an accident which saw their car plunge into a river and he was drowned whilst the mother Maria and daughter escaped. Now 6 years on, Maria is told about a mysterious temple in the woods far away, where she could meet her little boy one more time and say a final farewell.

I must admit that I didn't know a whole lot about this movie going into it but I was expecting more than what I saw. The story basically stole ideas from Pet Semetary. There are those that would tell you it's homage, but one man's homage is another man's stolen goods and this is a little too stolen. There are clues all over that they have done this. I liked the idea of using local Indian lore in the plot but what a shame that the director couldn't pull it off that well. You get the usual cheap shocks which did nothing for me. So in the end, this movie is just another cliché horror that you'll instantly forget.

This Hammer production broke away from the traditional horror movies for which they had become famous in the 1950's and like "The Camp on Blood Island" was a WWII drama concentrating on the war with the Japanese. Set in the Burmese jungle, but filmed in the studio, it is a mostly all-male affair full of very familiar British faces of the time. The movie starts off in a deceptively familiar fashion, lulling the audience into the belief that we are in for yet another routine war-time jungle patrol movie. Then things are turned on their head when a British unit taking refuge in a small village are captured by the Japanese. Stanley Baker gives a powerful performance as an officer under pressure. The lines are blurred as to who is good or bad - the British for what they do to some native villagers or the Japanese for their treatment of the British prisoners. It's a thoroughly satisfying anti-war movie.

One of only four Hammer war movies, this is a good and sometimes harrowing POW drama. The movie takes place on a small island - which is being used as a prison camp by the occupying Japanese forces - off the coast of Malaya, as it then was, in August 1945. Brutal and unrelenting by the standards of the time, it does not pull any punches in its depiction of Japanese atrocities against their prisoners and, as such, it was criticised for being gratuitously violent when it was released. The story was apparently based on a real incident. One thing that is very distracting about the movie is that, extras aside, none of the Japanese characters are played by actors who look even remotely Japanese. There is some fine acting on display most notably from Andre Morell as the obstinate and authoritarian Colonel Lambert. In the end, this is a good movie which pushed the boundaries of what was acceptable in British cinema in the late 1950s with its depiction of violence.

Set 40 years after the original movie, the plot follows Laurie Strode once again, as she prepares to face the masked Michael Myers when he returns to Haddonfield, Illinois, after his last killing spree on Halloween night. This movie has had mostly praise from diehards and critics for its well balance approach to the source material, by not swaying too far from it, while also subverting enough expectations to stand on its own with the use of suspense and brutal action. Specific things that I didn't like were the just randomly crazy psychiatrist that had evidentialy been working for 20 years and no one knew he was insane. It just seemed a little convenient to me that he was nuts and helping Michael out. Overall, a welcome return to form for the franchise and judging by the ending there might be yet again an outing for Michael Myers in the future.

A great WWII comedy about an unfriendly British professor who wants to test out his equipment over Germany but is unfortunately shot down in a plane and thrown into a POW camp. His new room-mates at the hut there don't like him at all but when an important coded message from London orders them to plan an escape for him, they discover how important he is to the country.

A very well done lighthearted comedy with many of the comedic stalwarts from this era taking part such as John Le Mesurier, Stanley Baxter, Leslie Phillips and Eric Sykes in supporting roles. James Roberson Justice is excellent in his role as the cantankerous Very Important Person. The German officers are cast as total buffoons and the British prisoners get by with a stiff upper lip and using humour as ultra sharp defence mechanisms. All in all, a typical British comedy from the time but turned into something special by the brilliant cast.

A very funny British movie from the 60's with about a young man who wants to take his girlfriend to the seashore in a borrowed caravan. His friend Fred is going to take them there, but in true comic fashion things don't go as planned and the group ends up stranded in France. Getting back to England is going to be difficult with no money and no petrol and these plot complications lead to one mishap after another. What a great comedy this manages to be and also a bit edgy whilst remaining entirely family friendly. A fine comic cast led by Bob Monkhouse and Leslie Phillips with the gorgeous Shirley Eaton and Irene Handl, brisk pacing and a sweet natured approach to comedy that the British did so well in the 1950s and 60s make A Weekend with Lulu a very pleasant way to spend 90 minutes.

Alpha (2018)
This movie is about a young boy, Keda and his family of nomads who live 20,000 years ago in Europe. During a hunting trip, Keda is separated from his family and spends the remainder of the film trying to get reunited with his family with the help of his newly acquired wolf that he names Alpha. The pacing was very, very slow. Things don't start to pick up until about halfway into the movie when Keda is separated and has to fend for himself. The first half is about his interactions with his family, but even those interactions, didn't captivate me. Every scene just felt like things happening and not scenes building towards something. The movie does have very beautiful shots of scenery and neat special effects but that's about all the good things I can say about it. It just didn't do it for me I'm afraid.

The original Goosebumps movie took me by surprise when it came out in 2015 and I really enjoyed it. Now 3 years later here comes the sequel. New characters and more monster action! The 2nd Goosebumps movie finds 2 boys letting loose an evil ventriloquist's dummy named Slappy from a sealed book. His powers are able to bring Halloween to life which causes chaos. This is a fun family adventure which will immerse you from start to finish. Jack Black has a small cameo right at the end. The actors playing the kids do a good job. The visual effects, from the costumes in the Halloween store that come to life to haunted pumpkins and demonic gummy bears are great. An impressive sequel.

The 3rd in the secret agent parody series with Johnny English being called up to MI7 when a cyber attack reveals all British undercover agents. It's up to English to discover and stop the villain. I've always enjoyed the Johnny English movies and this one is just as funny as the other two. It doesn't matter about the plot as it really does deliver on laughs throughout. Every scene contains some slapstick shenanigans. This is the movie's strength. There are segments in the movie such as a scene in a French restaurant, an extended sequence involving virtual reality, as well as the final act, which are laugh-out-loud funny. Rowan Atkinson is fantastic once again as the inept secret agent. If you love non-stop slapstick humour then you'll enjoy this movie very much.

Bradley Cooper's directorial debut is a satisfying and well-made remake of the classic story (this is the 5th remake of the story!). Cooper stars as troubled country/rock musician Jackson Maine who discovers and falls in love with a female singer named Ally played by Lady Gaga who he sees performing in a drag queen bar. The acting in the movie is good with Cooper giving a great performance as such an ambiguous and flawed protagonist. I didn't expect Lady Gaga to be completely convincing in her role, but she did a great job with both acting as well as singing. The songs are incredibly well performed. The movie fails for taking the unfortunate route of indulging in some cheesy clichés of romantic dramas and going on for 25-30 mins too long. Overall a decent enough movie but it's not as spectacular and Oscar worthy that some people make it out to be.

First Man (2018)
I was expecting this to be an fun and exciting movie about the first man to land on the Moon but it's quite a dour and depressing movie. It managed to capture none of the majesty, grandeur, or scope of the undertaking - it was just a wet blanket of constant angst. There's also too many shaky handheld camera shots just to make it seem more authentic. Worth seeing for the visuals and the Gemini 8 portrayal but all in all seemed, to me, to be a bit shallow. Even the actual Moon landing itself is a bit anti-climatic. It makes Neil Armstrong come across as a cold and dull person especially with his family. Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy have absolutely zero chemistry on screen. To say this movie dragged on for way too long is an understatement. I can't really recommend this movie as it's too boring for words.

Another cracking movie by Spike Lee. It's based on a true story during the late 70's in which an undercover black police detective managed to hoodwink KKK members into believing he was a white man on the telephone whilst sending one of his colleagues into the lion's den to infiltrate the organisation. It's an enthralling movie which held my interest from start to finish. John David Washington and Adam Driver are brilliant as the officers working on taking down the klan. Spike Lee is at his best, as he typically is when working with material about race in America. Subtlety isn't always his strength or his intention, hence the mix of over-the-top and subtle racism. He opts to hammer home his message at the movie's closing with some footage of last year's march in Charlottesville and the sound bites from a certain political figure that followed. Go watch it as it gives everybody something to think about.

A group of former concentration camp survivors have banded together to form a group that hunt Nazi war criminals that have escaped justice. When the former kommandant of Auschwitz is discovered living in London under a false identity, the group sends one of them over there to capture and bring him back to Germany for trial.

This is a fast paced thriller written by Brian Clemens who is best known for The Avengers and many other British TV series. It follows the Nazi villain as he tries to escape from the UK by plane but cannot due to the tampering of his passport so he asks some local hoodlums to make him a new one and he befriends a Jewish girl who doesn't know he was the boss of the concentration camp where her parents were killed. The finale sees the former Nazi, the hoodlums and his hunter end up in a warehouse where a shootout between all of them takes place. The movie only lasts for just over an hour but it's well worth seeking out.

This isn't a very well known Hammer movie as it's not a horror movie but a violent adventure. Christopher Lee plays the evil and cunning Chung King, the leader of the Red Tongs in 1910 Hong Kong who will kill anyone who stands in their way of their slave and opium trade. The Tongs make the mistake of killing a British sea captain's daughter and he goes all out for revenge against them. Christopher Lee is basically playing Fu Manchu by any other name. Future Dr Who villain actor Roger Delgado plays his right hand man. This movie is far from being the best that Hammer were producing at the time but it's entertaining to watch. Hammer completists will want to give it a go.

Venom (2018)
I can't understand why the critics have taken pot shots at this movie because it's great. It's not a superhero movie as Venom is more of an anti-hero. Tom Hardy makes this entire movie work with a completely passionately versatile performance showing immense acting talent like he always does. Once Eddie Brock achieves full symbiosis with Venom, it becomes an absolutely intense and fun experience to witness. The dialogue exchanges between Eddie and Venom is hilarious. There are also cool action sequences to enjoy. I thought Riz Ahmed was fine as the conniving billionaire villain. Even though it's a PG-13 movie, it is still a very dark and violent story with some outstanding body horror sequences. To those that are bored with formulaic Marvel Universe movies, this is a breath of fresh air and all the better for it.

The Predator (2018)
Just when you thought the Predator franchise couldn't get any worse than the last installment, this one comes along and takes the biscuit as being the absolute pits. It is terrible, a train wreck with it's pathetic jokes, crappy script and awful acting. I'm not sure if director Shane Black wanted this to be a comedy action movie or not? There are mountains of both intentional and unintentional comedy littered throughout. At times, it's difficult to tell which is happening. The special effects are laughably bad in certain instances, but maybe that was a nod to the original? Again, it's difficult to tell. It's an insult to the first Predator movie which was fantastic. Even the 2nd movie was fine but all the other entries after that have been poor. Don't bother with this tripe as it has damaged the Predator franchise for good.

This is a comedy version of the Jekyll & Hyde story set in the 1950's. Henry Jekyll is the black sheep of the family. A clumsy buffoon who embarasses the rest of his pharmacist family. One evening whilst he is banned from attending a dance with his older brother and sister, he discovers a secret formula by his relation and turns from the idiot Jekyll into the smooth and dashing Teddy Hyde. Hyde becomes involved with a bunch of crooks who are planning a daring heist to steal the crown jewels.

Bernard Bresslaw who was riding high on the success of the TV comedy The Army Game is the top billing in this movie alongside future Dr Who Jon Pertwee. This is one of those movies that is long lost forgotten by the British public. It's a good comedy (not a classic though) by Hammer Studios with Bresslaw on top form as both Jekyll and Hyde. His interaction with Jon Pertwee as his elder brother is fantastic. There is far too much of Joe Loss and His Orchestra which somewhat spoils the flow of the movie. This will probably interest Hammer fans more than anybody else as it was the first of their three versions of the Jekyll & Hyde story. I enjoyed it.

A nice slow burner of a horror movie. A frustrated, angst-ridden teenage girl awakens something in the woods when she naively performs an occult ritual to evoke a witch to kill her mother.

There's no question that this low budget indie movie is driven by solid performances, specifically by Nicole Munoz and Laurie Holden. The dynamic between these characters is believable and could pass as a standalone drama if the horror elements weren't included. The most impressive aspect of this movie is how director Adam MacDonald used his low budget to create a piece of film that uses effective storytelling and edge-of-your-seat suspense. If you're an individual who prefers the louder, high budget horror shows, I think you will be slightly disappointed with this movie. On the other hand if you enjoy movies that take their time in telling a story then this has a frightening pay off right at the end. Worth seeking out.

In modern day Japan, a dog flu epidemic has turned a city against its furry friends. The evil dog hating mayor has rounded up all dogs and exiled them to trash island, where they live in filth and suffering. Atari, the adopted son of the Mayor, flies a plane onto the island to rescue his dog Spots and rebel against the system.

Wes Anderson's love letter to dogs and Japan is a creatively made, character driven comedy story, with a melancholic and satirical undertone. The animation, editing and sound design are the main brass here, and are used to great effect to communicate much of the story. The voice performances were pitch perfect and the right actors were chosen. Bryan Cranston was terrific and so was Edward Norton. There are nice and funny twists throughout the whole movie. And in the end it has an important message to tell. Another winner from Wes Anderson.

Set in the UK during the post-war years when food rationing especially that of meat was still ongoing, this delightful comedy finds some people in a small town illegally raising a pig in order to slaughter it for a party to celebrate Princess Elizabeth's marriage. But just before the party, the pig is stolen by Gilbert Chilvers on the instigation of his wife and his mother-in-law, who can't live with the idea that they no longer belong to the notables of the community and therefore can't get more meat...

This movie's witty script was written by none other than Alan Bennett. Most of the best comedy happens when the pig has been kidnapped and is living in the Chilvers' house. Another good reason why you should give this movie a try is the acting. Michael Palin is excellent as the somewhat quiet, but lovable husband who does everything his wife - Maggie Smith plays that role really very well - wants him to do. Liz Smith is also very funny as Smith's batty mother. If you like the typical British humour, than this is definitely a movie you shouldn't miss.

This is an inventive and darkly humorous Australian zombie flick that may turn off some purists who think zombie movies should adhere to a set list of rules. But if you like your zombie movies to evolve new styles and have fun with old clichés, then you just might enjoy it. It is gory and over the top with energetic editing, perhaps to a fault. The dialogue is mostly amusing with a few parts that fall flat. The movie is a lot of fun with some interesting elements from other stuff such as Mad Max thrown in. The filmmakers make it seem like the story is unimportant, which is true but when you've got wild bloody action taking place does it really matter? This zombie horror was better than I expected and if you're after a fun ride then be sure to check it out.

This is the rarely seen spin-off movie for the popular late 60's ITV sitcom. Set in London's East End, it's about a pair of unlikely business partners. Manny Cohen is a Jewish tailor with Patrick Kelly, his Catholic Irish friend who try hard to put their religious and cultural differences aside in the interests of making a living, but mutual misunderstanding all too easily gets the better of them. In the movie the pair get a sexy young female assistant Rita, seriously fall out after a gambling incident, experience woman trouble, find themselves burgled, and eventually end up on holiday in Rome after posing as priests only to cause chaos at the Vatican!

One of the better sitcoms to transfer well to the big screen yet this movie feels very much like a couple of episodes that have been stitched together. There's plenty of laughs to be had here and it's far ruder than what you would have seen in the TV series with topless women parading around. John Bluthal and Joe Lynch are brilliant as the ever-warring Cohen and Kelly. There's even an appearance from Yootha Joyce as a woman who tries to seduce Manny. I've never seen the series but after watching this movie I'd like to check it out even though the majority of the first 2 series are missing from the archives, most probably wiped as was the policy at the time. If you're after a good farce, you can't go wrong with this movie.

What a complete mess this movie is. I'm not really sure what the plot is all about to be honest. It was fine for the first 30 mins with the 3 punk lads looking for a party but it went down the drain after they stumble across a house with weird colour coded dressed people inside it. The movie comes across like a pretentious 6th form drama school project. The only good performance is that of Elle Fanning - she's stunning to look at and has that natural ability to make people empathise. This movie is creative I'll give it that but it's far too odd for many to find entertaining.

The Japanese invade British governed Borneo during WWII and families are split up. Agnes Keith is one such woman who with her young son is taken to a women's prisoner of war camp. There is no hope for any of the women. Life is hard. Forced physical labour is the rule of the day. Japanese soldiers show no feelings for their captives. However there is one man, Colonel Suga who is in charge of the camp who tries to show respect to the women and has a friendly relationship with Agnes.

This is an interesting and strong drama based on a true story. It's a taut psychological drama about physical and emotional survival focusing on the tensions between Agnes, the Japanese soldiers and Colonel Suga. Familiar ground is trod in this prisoner-of-war saga, but the thought-provoking story and magnificent acting help sustain interest. There is some brutality shown such as an attempted rape and the massacre of a group of Australian soldiers. The acting is very good with Claudette Colbert standing out as Agnes Keith. Sessue Hayakawa is also great as Colonel Suga. Definitely a movie to check out.

Legendary British comedian Frankie Howerd's debut on the big screen. He plays a relief bus driver named Percy Lamb who has to transport a small number of passengers to another airport when fog delays all aircraft out of Heathrow airport. Unbeknown to Lamb, a robbery has taken place and gold bullion bars have been put into the bus' hold with a criminal mastermind known as The Banker being one of the passengers. On the way Percy gets lost in the bus and they stop at a small village.

A fun movie with a stellar cast which includes Margaret Rutherford and a young Petula Clark as a female bus conductor. It took me a while to recognise her though. She doesn't get to sing either! The pace of the movie is quick, but what I think really makes this movie above par is that you are never sure about who are the good guys and who are the bad guys. You will definitely change your mind multiple times, and the script does a wonderful job of leading you down one path only to change direction a few moments later. You think you know who did it, but then you are sure you are wrong. Frankie Howerd is brilliant as the bus driver and gets a lot of laughs. He's on top of his game in this movie and if you were a fan of his style of comedy then this is definitely worth watching.

This is a wonderful movie set just after WWII has ended. A female writer from London goes to the island of Guernsey in 1946 to find out more about a curiously named book society. She becomes enchanted with its idyllic village life and rural tranquility and how each member of the society has their own wartime story to tell.

The movie contains multiple sub-stories which are a montage of war-time Guernsey. They include dark themes of Nazi collaboration, the trauma of children separated from families, and uplifting themes about how literature can bring people together. The characters are warm and charming and the filmmakers capture the era perfectly. Lily James and the ensemble cast are superb. It's a shame they did not actually film on the island of Guernsey. Most of the beautiful landscape shown is of Devon and Cornwall. This is a fantastic movie of a study of survival under wartime occupation, and a tale of friendship, romance, and love of literature.

This cool and thrilling crime caper has a smooth conman by the name of Dominic organising a team of crooks to break into a safe full of money in a London Foreign Embassy with information by the Ambassador's daughter who is infatuated with Dominic. The plan is to go through an unused tunnel that runs off the London Underground. This will lead to a basement wall of the Embassy. They will knock through the wall at 4 in the morning when everyone is either gone, or sleeping.

Another example of a forgotten well made British movie that's full of suspense with a tight script and realistic characters to propel the story along. The movie begins rather slowly, taking time to explore the characters and their relationships, but quickly builds up steam in the second half. The scene of the actual robbery is limited to the last 20 minutes or so but makes for cracking entertainment, with plenty of tension to keep it brimming along. Terence Morgan and John Crawford are great but it's future Dr Who William Hartnell that shines as an old-fashioned safe cracker. All in all a very enjoyable hour and half despite the slightly predictable ending.

This great movie is about an aspiring author with OCD named Bella. She befriends her next door neighbour Alfred when she is told she will be evicted from her house if she doesn't tend to her garden. With the help from Alfred and Vernon, Bella's personal chef, they try to find a way to tend to the garden and, in doing so, discover how a garden influences them.

This movie has stunning visuals, character development and a spellbinding script that make it such a wonderful experience. The characters grow alongside each other. Alfred starts off as a grumpy and mean old man, but grows to be kind, gentle and treats Bella as though she is his daughter. Bella is introduced as timid and scared of nature, but she overcomes her fear when she befriends Alfred and learns to care for the garden. Throughout the movie, you also see Bella become less and less OCD. Jessica Brown Findley is a pleasure to watch and she has a great co-star in Tom Wilkinson as her foil. This movie overall was a breath of fresh air with it's simple storyline.

Tom Brown starts Rugby School and it isn't long before he becomes one of the victims of the school bully, Flashman. A year later, he is assigned to look after a new starter, the rather nervous Arthur. He also becomes a victim of Flashman and together with Tom's friend East they conspire to have their revenge on Flashman.

This is supposed to be one of the best depictions of schoolboy life in literature and it comes off rather well onscreen too. It looks great, beautifully shot and the period setting is suitably atmospheric and quaint. The script is very thought-provoking, with some nice charming, humorous and poignant moments, and much of the story is charming and lively. Flashman's very vindictive bullying borders on being sadistic but thankfully he gets his comeuppance near the end. John Howard Davies is great as Tom Brown with John Forrest coming very close to stealing the show as Flashman. If you like stories of schoolboys banding together against the bad guys, you'll probably like this story.

Director Peter Berg and actor Mark Wahlberg are back for their 4th testosterone-laced collaboration but this movie isn't as good as their previous efforts. CIA operative James Silva leads a small but lethal paramilitary team on an urgent and dangerous mission. They must transport a foreign intelligence asset from an American embassy in Southeast Asia to an airfield for extraction - a distance of 22 miles. Silva and the soldiers soon find themselves in a race against time as the city's military, police and street gangs close in to reclaim the asset.

After a good opening sequence, I was expecting this to be a great well-written actioner but it doesn't turn out to be the case. Mark Wahlberg spends most of his time yelling and Iko Uwais only gets to really show off his martial arts skills in an incredible hospital room fight scene. Intensity, tension, violence, gun play, fighting and chase scenes are jam-packed into a relatively short run time and this would have been OK with me had the director not used so many unnecessary zooms and shaky shots. Ronda Rousey is wasted with barely no lines and doesn't get to fight. I thought the movie was a bit of a let down and I don't think I'll watch it again.

Denzel Washington returns as Robert McCall, a vigilante-type figure and former special forces operative who begins the movie on a mission in Turkey. Things become personal for McCall when a woman who he worked with on multiple missions has been killed by thugs in Brussels. McCall attempts to bring the perpetrators to justice.

This is a great sequel. It's a solid if unspectacular follow up with thrilling and intense action scenes. The movie's action-packed finale - a climatic showdown in the midst of an incredibly rough hurricane, is thoroughly effective and satisfying. Denzel Washington is fantastic as McCall, blending a unique mix of charisma and ferocity. He is able to carry the movie on all of its levels from beginning to end. If you've seen any other "vigilante"-style action movie before, you'll be able to guess the key plot elements well before they unfold, and the movie's sole attempt at a plot twist can be guessed within the first 20 minutes. Fans of the first movie and Denzel Washington should be able to look past that and enjoy the action-packed ride.

A nice sly comedy that has similarities to Richard Pryor's Brewsters Millions. When Henry Russell dies, known during his lifetime as a practical joker, he sets his beneficiaries a task that they must achieve before they can gain a share of their inheritance of £50,000. One has to committ a crime and go behind bars for 28 days, another has to marry the first girl he has a conversation with, another has to pull a gun out and threaten his bank manager boss to give him the money from the safe and finally the last one has to become a carer at a nursing home.

This comedy is fairly amusing because the viewer watches as the various stories unfold, with varying degrees of success. One just can't get arrested, no matter how hard he tries. Some twists at the end... some are successful in their tasks, some are not. It's very entertaining. Alistair Sim and George Cole are on fine form and produce the best laughs. All of the characters learn something about life and about themselves by the end. This movie might not be a masterpiece of the sort that Ealing Studios were turning out in the 1950s but it's still worth a look.

Final Score (2018)
Billed as Die Hard In A Football Stadium, this is an entertaining and completely OTT actioner starring former wrestler Dave Bautista who gets caught up in a terrorist plot during West Ham United's final game at Upton Park. When his niece who is with him at the match is kidnapped by the bad guys, he unleashes a one-man war against them.

If you can disengage your brain and forget about the plot holes in the story then you'll have a great time watching this movie. It's got all the action you want from gun fights to hand to hand combat and ridiculous stunts to make you happy. OK, so Dave Bautista won't win any awards with his acting but he does make a good leading action man. You'll cheer him on as he takes on the nasty Russian villains. I laughed when former West Ham striker Tony Cottee who has a small cameo in the movie is shot dead by one of the baddies! Pierce Brosnan has an awful Russian accent on him. This is one of those movies to watch with your friends after coming back from the pub on a Saturday night. All good fun.

I was expecting this to be an interesting documentary about mountains but what I got instead was a showcase for extreme sports and a very irratating soundtrack. The narration by Willem Dafoe is so muddled and so shallow that it almost defies belief at times. It's complete claptrap if I'm being honest. Don't get me wrong, the footage at times is breathtaking but there's no telling which mountain ranges you're looking at. A simple text at the bottom of the screen or something by Willem Dafoe would have been nice. I didn't feel the documentary showed any understanding of mountains and why people feel the need to climb them. I think I'll watch something better by the BBC next time if I feel the need to see a proper nature documentary.

The Mimic (2017)
Disappointing Korean horror which started off well but petered off badly towards the end. Traveling into the wilderness, a troubled family trying to heal itself after their son has gone missing finds that the reclusive girl they found in the woods leads them into a series of confrontations with a deadly ghost that can mimic human voices.

South Korean horrors have eclipsed other Asian countries efforts over the past decade but unfortunately this one doesn't come up to scratch. It's a rather cliched, generic horror with jump scares. The story I felt was unappealing and I did feel myself losing interest during the second half. The characters portrayed in the movie were one-dimensional cardboard cut-outs that you formed absolutely no bond or relationship to. There was nothing scary about this movie. I know I can't expect South Korea to come up with cool and interesting horror movies all the time but this was one effort that's not really worth bothering about.

Before his wedding day, the groom uncovers a skeleton in a mud pit and is dragged underneath the mud by unseen forces. The next day the wedding goes ahead but the groom is acting a little bit strange.

This is not your typical demon possession movie. There is no deep voiced evil spirit which causes blood and carnage here. It is instead based on the Jewish dybbuk story so if you watch this movie expecting a good horror I'm afraid you've come to the wrong place. It's not a bad movie and the atmosphere is great but it just wasn't what I was hoping for. Performances are good, but the plot and characterisation are uneven. There's a bit of a sad tale to this movie as the director Marcin Wrona committed suicide whilst promoting it. If you want to see a possession story with a difference by all means give it a go.

This is a fun and energetic horror flick by Wes Craven about a young teen named Fool, a street-smart 13 year-old kid living in the ghetto. When his mother falls ill and the evil landlord hits them with an eviction notice, he hatches a plan with a family friend to break into the landlord's house and rob him of his riches. Unfortunately, Fool finds himself trapped in the house which turns out to be a fortress and uncovers a disturbing discovery about the inhabitants lurking in the basement.

Full of stunning visuals, slapstick humour and colorful performances by its cast, it feels like an 80's movie because of the outfits the characters wear to the oddball hip-hop song that closes out the movie. It helps, though, that Wes Craven is in top form with delivering some truly nightmarish visuals, aided by one great big set-piece in the house. Quintin Adams as Fool is a rarity in that he is a kid in a horror movie that isn't annoying. Quite the opposite, Fool is likable and real enough that you can't help but cheer him along. The movie is more fun than it is scary with plenty of witty one-liners. Overall, this is an immensely entertaining and offbeat little horror flick. It isn't perfect but you can enjoy a twisted, almost fairytale-like horror movie.

Eyewitness (1956)
After arguing with her husband, Lucy gets out of the house and goes to watch a movie at a cinema. Unfortunately she stumbles onto 2 men robbing the safe there and murdering the owner. Escaping onto the streets outside, she gets hit by a double decker bus and is taken to the local hospital. The two crooks follow her there, intending to finish her off as she is the only witness to watch happened.

A tension racked and thrilling crime movie set mostly at the hospital where Lucy has been rushed to with concussion. It's true there are many characters and coincidences stopping the crooks from killing Lucy off but it definitely makes it more exciting to watch. The director gives the movie a sinister atmosphere as the viewer can see that the thieves are nasty pieces of work. Donald Sinden is great as one of them. I found this movie was effective in delivering thrills and chills. It is certainly worth a look.

The 4th and final movie featuring the Huggetts family isn't as good as the first I saw a while ago. It didn't do well commercially either as the proposed Huggetts Christmas movie was scrapped soon after. The story has the family relocating to South Africa by truck when the father loses his job. With a Canadian travelling companion they travel to Algiers but soon trouble crops up which involves stolen diamonds.

It seemed by the time this movie came out, the well had truly run dry for the Huggetts. Their popularity was on the wane and the script for this movie wasn't up to scratch - hardly any comedy. Possibly audiences didn't like they'd been taken out of their suburban environment as well. The budget is cheap so the cast didn't go to Africa after all. The desert scenes were all shot in a studio. The cast led by Jack Warner and Kathleen Harrison are good and teenager Petula Clark sings a few numbers. A rather poor end to a series of movies that had started brightly. Despite the family being axed onscreen, they did come back to radio 4 years later in 1953 which spawned a BBC series that ran for 9 years.

An innocent discovery of a well-preserved mummified Emperor from 200 BC China unearths a 2000 year old nightmare - a secret that should have remained buried.

This is a terrible movie financed between China and Australia. A crappy mix between Tomb Raider and Indiana Jones. It's full of cliches, predictability and muddled, convoluted storytelling. I can't tell you which is worse - the script, CGI or the acting. For the life of me I can't fathom why Kelsey Grammer signed onto this. Bingbing Li is awful as the woman searching for her lost brother. There's really nothing I can tell you which is good here. I urge you not to watch this travesty of a movie.

A pretty standard actioner about a logger who vows to protect his family against a drugs gang that has stashed it's dope on his property out in the snowy Canadian wilderness. Jason Momoa does a decent job in the leading role. This movie never out stays it's welcome even if some character development is questionable. Fight scenes look good as do some of the gruesome ways in which characters meet their demise. Momoa is not a superhero here. He bleeds and takes a beating just like the rest of us. Garret Dillahunt plays the lead bad guy and it's apparent to all he's loving it too. He's menacing, evil, a right nasty piece of work. As long as you switch your brain off and go with the flow, you'll enjoy this movie.

A great sequel that manages to retain the feel and charm of the original and further expands on it in many ways. Like in any good sequel everything is a bit bigger (some times literally). It's funnier, more action-packed, and the stakes are higher. Also the characters have the same great chemistry as before which results in some very funny and moving moments. Much like the original it perhaps is not among the greatest of Marvel movies, but it has it's own unique charm! Paul Rudd as Ant-Man evolves himself as a hero but it's Evangeline Lilly as Wasp that stole the show for myself. All in all, this movie is full of action, fun moments and character development and if you loved the original then you'll love this too.

Jason Statham takes on a gigantic 75 foot prehistoric shark in this thrilling movie. According to what I've read, the theatrical version isn't what was originally planned and there were more gory deaths supposed to happen but the filmmakers wanted to get the teen audience onboard to see this movie so they re-cut it. It's been a while since there has been a decent shark movie and this one certainly hits the mark. What you'll notice as well is that this movie is very obviously made to grab the Chinese market. The set pieces between Statham and The Meg were cool and exciting with a number of red herrings thrown in when the characters think they've killed the shark but what do you know another Meg pops up. The movie doesn't try to hide what it is, but rather embraces the absurdity of the premise and goes full throttle to becoming the Summer's most satisfying popcorn feature with a lot of tongue in cheek humour. I had a lot of fun watching this movie.

Smugglers disguised as Navy Personnel are bringing French Liqueurs into the country. Unfortunately, they decided to drop them off in a nature reserve watched over by Lady Flavia Queensway. Concerned about her beloved bird population being in danger from the transgressors, she informs Customs and Excise of the events. They send Detective Kenyon to check it out. This, in turn, leads them to a more important smuggling ring who are about to bring in a large volume of drugs. Kenyon sets out on their trail, which takes him to the south of France and closer to one of the suspects than he would like.

Admirably tense and exciting, this movie comes across as an engrossing and suspenseful thriller. The cast is solid and everybody is superb in their roles. Nigel Patrick is good in the lead role as dogged customs detective Kenyon ably supported by Jack Warner who a year later in 1955 would hit the big time with the long running police TV drama Dixon of Dock Green. Theodore Bikel has an air of menace about him as Max who is smuggling the drugs into the UK. There is some light comedy to proceedings right at the beginning and at the end but mostly this is a serious movie and a good thriller at that too. Definitely worth a watch.

Up the Creek (1958)
An early vehicle for Peter Sellers as the Chef Petty Officer of a mothballed ship HMS Berkeley whose crew has been running a laundering service for 2 years until a calamitous Lieutenant who has been making his own rockets with disastrous results is made in charge.

The late 50's/early 60's was the time in which comedy movies about the military service were made a lot in the UK and this is one example of that genre. It's an amusing farce in which the wily crew led by Sellers try to pull a fast one on their new commanding officer. The tone of this movie feels like one of the early Carry-On's. The jokes come thick and fast and the situation comedy is hilarious. Peter Sellers is probably the main reason for watching this movie but David Tomlinson is also good as the buffoon in charge of the Berkeley. I wouldn't say this is a memorable comedy but it is funny and if you're after a laugh or two you can't go wrong with it.

Fiona gets a letter from her 88 year old aunt Martha, who's lived in Paris for decades but now cries out for help. Fiona does not hesitate, says goodbye to her Canadian village in the snowy mountains, and off she goes. When she gets to Paris, her aunt Martha is not home, forcing Fiona onto the streets and into all sorts if (mis)adventures.

This is quite a bizarre comedy movie and some of the stuff that happens to Fiona is really absurd but the best thing for the viewer to do is to go along with it and as the story goes on you'll laugh at ridiculousness of it all. The two main stars in Fiona Gordon and Dominique Abel also co-directed, co-produced and co-wrote the movie. They use a physical and visual kind of humour that the French comedian Jacques Tati did a long time ago. I didn't think I was going to like it at first but it grew on me and I did laugh out loud several times. Naturally the views of Paris during the day and night is stunning to see. I'm sure this movie will bring a smile to your face.
