The result of a long-running poll at mubi.com, which finished in 2012, at a time when the site had many very knowledgeable cinephiles experienced in international cinema. Firstly users voted for their favourite films, with over 1000 nominees. Over a period of months, films were whittled down to a final 20, by users picking a few films to vote up and down, causing films to be eliminated daily. On the last day the top 20 were arranged into order by votes.
