Netflix Instant Project for 2014
Deleted user

The list has been updated, good to see things picking up again as we enter March after a quiet end to February - nice to see you around again, giraffe, The Day the Earth Stood Still is the runaway most popular so far, but to be honest, while I liked that film, if I had my druthers on what movie to watch again first, it would be Plan 9 from Outer Space, that one definitely fits in the so bad its good category :)

@portlander - Too bad Plan 9 isn't on Netflix instant.
Deleted user

Unfortunately it isn't - but I would definitely recommending Plan 9 if it ever does pop up on Netflix, in the mean time it's on Youtube if anybody is interested in watching it there.

The Last Stand
It's a lot better than people give it credit for. Think of it as Jee-woon Kim's latest rather than Arnie's return to action. Helps.

Updated!

Great Topic! I have a blog at Wordpress about movies and TV shows available on Netflix Instant. I review movies and alert people to movies that are leaving the service, and also post news articles relevant to Netflix.
Recommendations for March
I can recommend two of the last three movies I reviewed:
You Only Live Once (1937) directed by Fritz Lang and starring Henry Fonda
Red Lights (2012) starring Cillian Murphy, Sigourney Weaver, and Robert DeNiro

Recommendations for April:
Nightmare City - www.listal.com/movie/nightmare-city
This is a seminal Italian zombie-flick from the 80s, AKA it's pretty darn awesome. It starts with machete and machine gun-wielding zombies landing a plane. They then proceed to wreak havoc all over a television studio. The twist ending is probably the most asinine of all time.
Frankenstein's Army - www.listal.com/movie/frankensteins-army
Now sure, this isn't the best film of all time or anything. But if you're big in to practical effects and hate CGI, then you need to watch this movie. When the practical gore and monsters show up, they look amazing. I just wish the camerawork wasn't complete BS.

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner
Certainly not the greatest comedy of the time, but Sidney Poitier is so damn good in it. At least according to my very faint memories.

Recommendations for April:
Alice (I know it was a pick last year, but I didn't recommend it then so it's OK, right?)
The Legend of Hell House
Holy crap Netflix added some awesome movies today. Too bad they don't all fit our criteria.
@VT - I feel like you chose Frankenstein's Army just for me. ;)

Stir Crazy - Surprised that one is so little watched, it's my favorite Richard Pryor/Gene Wilder film.
@giraffe - no problem recommending movies that were picked last year, I try not to pick movies I recommended last year, but I don't go back and check to make sure, besides it gives people who didn't see a recommended film last year another chance to see it this year :)

Throwing my support behind:
Alice - Heck, I recommended it last year so only makes sense.
@giraffe I can't deny that the moment I saw it on the Instantwatcher-website I didn't think about your words of the Maniac-remake.

Throwing my support behind: Stir Crazy - Actually not my favorite at all of the Wilder/Pryor pairings, but it's entertaining enough.
@VT - I thought so. :)

By the way, it's got too many ratings to include for our project (or I would've picked it), but if anyone has NOT seen The Diving Bell & the Butterfly it's now available on Instant & is very much worth checking out.

Finally saw it. Sure was Jeff Nicholsian as balls, down to the fact that the ending almost ruins everything.

My internet is finally back so I can give my Recommendations for May:
The Dirties - www.listal.com/movie/the-dirties
The Pervert's Guide to Ideology - www.listal.com/movie/perverts-guide-ideology
The first is an interesting Canadian microbudget film about making movies. It's very similar to something like American Movie, except... Well, I won't spoil what differentiates it so severely. It's an interesting piece. Pervert's Guide... is just one of the funniest and most insightful (albeit controversial) documentaries about film analysis I've seen.

Recommendations for June:
Night of the Creeps - www.listal.com/movie/night-creeps
Look, if you haven't seen Night of the Creeps, you're doing it wrong. You need to see Night of the Creeps.
We Are What We Are - www.listal.com/movie/we-are-what-we-are-2013
One of the best horror remakes, a visionary improvement over the original which you should really just skip and get to the, uhm, meat of it with this one. It's sort of if Terrence Malick's DP made a horror movie.

Recommendations for July:

Completely shocking to me that both these films have less than 200 ratings on here.
Also, @portlander - I don't see my support there for Night of the Creeps. Please add it when you get a chance. :)

Recommendations for July:
The Triplets of Belleville - www.listal.com/movie/the-triplets-of-belleville
This is among the greatest animated movies I've seen. You need to watch it too. Yes, you. I know you're reading this and you need to see it.
Contracted - www.listal.com/movie/contracted
A cool microbudget body-horror with a great ending.
Throwing my support behind:
The Family
Never thought I'd like it but it's a really weird and melancholic comedy without any real jokes in a sense but... I dunno, it's really friggin' weird and depressing and I kinda really like it.

Sorry for the late update, I had a busy beginning of the month, and on a similar note I am expanding my June movie log into a Summer movie log, as there is a lot going on for me this Summer and the weather is so nice it doesn't feel right to spend to much time watching movies, better to save the heavy movie watching for the Looong Portland rainy season.
Hope every is having a nice Summer :)

Alright, I'll replace those Triplets with
Banshee Chapter - www.listal.com/movie/the-banshee-chapter
This is a fairly spooky indie horror (based on Lovecraft's From Beyond) with a fantastic Hunter S. Thompson -tribute performance.

Sorry about that, man. Forgot to mention before that Triplets is TOTALLY worth checking out regardless. And that description is enough that I've already added Banshee Chapter to my queue.

It's far from one of the best King adaptations, but entertaining enough to be worthwhile if you're in the right mood.
