If I had to describe the films of Tom Hooper, I suppose it would be the films are like white elephants. Painfully tasteful, devoid of personality, overloaded with asymmetrical framing, glossy images, and emotionally detached, I do not respond well to them. If I can avoid them, I do, but I committed to watching the nominees in the major Oscar categories again this year, and had to endure this. ... read more

Thoughts Before I Watched This:
1. Times are still hard for transgendered people these days so it should be interesting to see what it was like in the very beginning.
2. I've always thought Eddie Redmayne had a sort of feminine look about him.
3. I'm sure after this I'm going to adore Alicia Vikander even more.

I remember the first time I noticed Eddie Redmayne. It was in ‘Savage Grace’ which did turn out to be a seriously unpleasant movie but Redmayne was really good in this flick. Flashforward 7 years later and the guy has become an Academy Award winner with ‘The Theory of Everything’. “Finally got round to seeing 'The Danish Girl' last night, having been intrigued by it (thanks to its subject, the way it was advertised and the talent involved) for a long time but not having the time due to heavy music and music college work commitments and being behind with my "must-see" list.My thoughts were that it is a beautiful and courageous film that won't be, and clearly isn't judging from the polarising user review opinions here, everybody's cup of tea, but is a sensitive and emotionally powerful portrayal of a subject matter that's important, very much relevant (even more so now) and controversial.
