“Since I have seen almost all the Disney Classic animated productions, I was quite eager to check their latest production, especially since it was now available for free on Disney+. Well, even if it won’t become one of their most memorable features, I thought it was still really enjoyable though. Indeed, I always had a weak spot for their exotic fairy tales (see also ‘Mulan’ or ‘Moana’) and the damned thing was just so gorgeous to look at but, at this point, I wouldn’t expect less from these guys. It was also neat to see a Disney animated features with so many strong female characters such as Raya herself but also Namaari who was definitely one of the most badass Disney characters I have seen. Concerning Sisu, Awkwafina was just pitch-perfect to voice this character and she was,” read more
“This movie had so much potential and of course it has many positive aspects, but it was kind of ruined by some pointless dialogues. Sometimes it seemed that some characters were regular modern teenagers who use internet and social network everyday. I know maybe they did it to appeal a bit more to the kids, but it totally doesn’t fit the story of the movie in my opinion. It could have been a 9, but I don’t even know if it’s a 6.5 …” read more
"Format: THEATER WOO HOO!! Viewing: 1st Thoughts: After not being in a movie theater since Once Upon A Time In Hollywood back in 2019, it was time to return and take my daughter to see something. Not a fan of kids movies at all, and in fact I find most of them a struggle to get through. Very impressed with this film and would go as far as saying its the best thing Disney has put out since Moana (Star Wars films included!). The original world building and characters were awesome and I loved the w"
"SCREENING: XPlus DATE: May 20th CINEMA: Showcase Cinema de Lux LOCATION: Bluewater SHORTS: Us Again (★★★) NOTE: Mum’s first viewing, but I had previously rented it on Disney+, something I hope I never do again, while cinemas were still closed."
"The worldbuilding it vastly different from the South-East Asian shish kebab promised in the marketing. Raya treks as far as Eastern Europe to reach her goal, and many of the civilians are hand-drawn and in a different art style to Raya."
"First viewing - Mar. 19th The kiddo & I headed to the drive-in to catch Raya and the Last Dragon, and it was a much needed return. We both enjoyed the overall experience of catching a movie on the big screen, and she would have been content to stay for the second film. However, the second film was Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which I really don't need to see again. So I insisted we head home, but as a concession to her I agreed we could watch Gremlins when we got home (it was on another scre"

"11.3. Don't worry, I didn't actually pay to see this underwhelming film, and neither should you. The overall style and designs are just your typical tried and tested Disney, the story recycles lots of their already boring tropes and... the story just doesn't flow naturally, there's way too much going on for one film. Raya the Last Airbender looks and sounds very good, but then again it's a film worth hundreds of millions of dollars, so what did you expect? I mean, what a waste of time and mone"
"A movie so good I am not particularly upset about paying 30$ to see it. Namaari's facial animation is out-of-this-world good and the first computer animated human character with whom I've felt a constant empathy and connection with primarily because of the animation of the eyes."
"93% Certified Fresh Critics Consensus: Another gorgeously animated, skillfully voiced entry in the Disney canon, Raya and the Last Dragon continues the studio's increased representation while reaffirming that its classic formula is just as reliable as ever."
"Looks like this could be really good, but having a daughter guarantees I'll see it. Unless she watches it with her mom instead, in which case maybe I'll watch it alone."
