Oh look, it's the same film in the same spot as my list for 2020. Surprise surprise. Actually most of what's on this list carries over from last year because it's pandemic world. Sorry for the repeats, but at least I can copy my notes from last year over & get this done faster.

I've been looking forward to this ever since the post-credits scene in Kong: Skull Island. The kiddo wants to see this too, though probably not as much as I do. If they do right by the titular battle then I may see this more than once. The only question is whether I can see it on the big screen or will have to watch it via HBO Max.
the giraffe's rating:

Malignant (2020)
James Wan finally returns to horror. I'll be there with bells on.
the giraffe's rating:

Candyman (2021)
The fact that Jordan Peele co-wrote this one has my anticipation for it very high. I'm looking forward to whatever they've come up with.
the giraffe's rating:

I caught the first 45 seconds of the trailer and decided that was enough to make me want to see this. Here's hoping it lives up to that promise.
the giraffe's rating:

I shouldn't even need to explain this one. We all know I'm Team Marvel.
the giraffe's rating:

If you saw Dolemite Is My Name then you know why I'm looking forward to another team-up between director Craig Brewer and Eddie Murphy. If you didn't see that film, well, head to Netflix and watch it now.
the giraffe's rating:

I don't need to even say anything, do I? Let's just hope this winds up being one of the better entries for Daniel Craig, especially if he's bowing out after this one.
the giraffe's rating:

A Quiet Place was a pleasant surprise, and with Krasinski and most of the cast returning I'll definitely give it a look.
the giraffe's rating:

This franchise has just kept getting better. Now the trick is to get the kiddo into it and catch her up before this one drops.
Look, Shyamalan is on a hot streak right now in my book, starting with The Visit. So yeah, I'll check this out.
the giraffe's rating:

James Gunn will almost certainly improve on the other film with a similar title, and I can't wait to see what he's done.
the giraffe's rating:

Idris Elba, Regina King, and Lakeith Stanfield in a Western? Absolutely on board with this one. It's supposed to drop on Netflix in 2021.
the giraffe's rating:

Minari wound up on a lot of best of 2020 lists for critics who got to see it last year, so I'm very interested in seeing it.
the giraffe's rating:

Looks like this could be really good, but having a daughter guarantees I'll see it. Unless she watches it with her mom instead, in which case maybe I'll watch it alone.
the giraffe's rating:

The premise of this is super fun, and the kiddo is excited for it, so we'll see it as soon as possible.
the giraffe's rating:

David Gordon Green returns after directing the best Halloween in ages. Of course I'll give it a shot.
the giraffe's rating:

It's a new film in the MCU, so of course I'm going to watch this as soon as possible. It's just not as high on the list because I'm not familiar at all with the characters involved.
the giraffe's rating:

Nomadland also wound up on a lot of best of 2020 films lists I saw, so I'm definitely curious to check it out.

Antlers (2021)
I've seen a little of the trailer for this and was not impressed at all. Supposedly it's better than the trailers suggest though, so I reserve the right to change my mind about it.
Doug Liman directing, Charlie Kaufman co-wrote the script, and Cynthia Erivo is part of the cast. Definitely curious about this one.
Look, we don't need another Ghostbusters movie. And yet the trailer for this one looks like it'll be a good time. If nothing else it looks more entertaining to me than the previous attempt to revive the franchise. Oh, and the kiddo wants to see it so I'll have to take her.
the giraffe's rating:

This looks like it could be a great time, and I'm certainly curious about it. On the other hand it's a musical, so I'm not as excited as I could be. Then again, that's what Lin Manuel-Miranda is known for so hopefully it's worth our time.
the giraffe's rating:

Given the subject matter I definitely want to see this, and the cast is solid too. It's just not one of the films I'm most excited for.
the giraffe's rating:

Belated sequels are rarely a good idea, especially one for a film that was merely good. But I've spent the past few years learning to trust in Tom Cruise when it comes to action movies, so I'll probably wind up seeing this.
the giraffe's rating:

OK, look, this will probably be a trainwreck. But Venom had its moments, so I might give this one a look. I'm not remotely excited for it, but curiosity will likely win out.
Seems like a gamble to post this list at all, but I figure why break a streak? Given the effects of the pandemic on...everything...it remains to be seen whether all these films will actually emerge in 2021. I'm not including any release dates this year as I anticipate they're subject to change. But here are the films that, if released in 2021 as they're rumored to, I'm most excited to check out.
