Plot synopsis: Young Tom Ripley (Delon) is sent to Italy to convince reckless playboy Philippe Greenleaf (Ronet) to return back home to his rich family. Instead, the pair become friends and spend their days idling on the beach and partying at nightclubs. Tom, who is poor, soon gets used to this wealthy lifestyle. After Philippe gets bored with Tom and tries to brush him off, Tom devises a plan to get rid of Philippe and steal his life.
