Plot synopsis: Dr. Gogol (Lorre) is a brilliant surgeon driven slowly insane by his unrequited love for Yvonne (Drake), star of the local horror theatre. Yvonne is married to Stephen Orlac (Clive), a gifted pianist. After a train accident crushes Stephen's hands, Yvonne comes to Gogol, pleading him to help his husband. Gogol agrees, successfully replacing Stephen's hands with those of an executed murderer. As his madness increases, Gogol invents a devilish plan to win Yvonne's love and to get rid of Stephen for good.
