“I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but since I have a weak spot for Albert Hughes’s work, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, to be honest, I did end up with some mixed feelings. I mean, the damned thing was hardly original and, on top of that, it took a while to finally get started. Still, even if Kodi Smit-McPhee’s character seemed to be rather wimpy at first, eventually, the character still worked and its sensitive side might have actually saved him. Indeed, he couldn’t kill this defenceless wolf like that, he actually needed him to survive and to make it through this hazardous journey. " DVD- 1hr. 36min. First Viewing It's a simple, well-trodden, story, but Alpha uses the coming of age/survival templates to craft another solid story of man and his most loyal companion. The story is solidly done, not necessarily revolutionary, but smartly told without too many hitches and/or narrative contrivances. " Date: 1/26/2019 Viewed: Blu-Ray (Red Box Rental) First viewing My family rented this movie and I decided to watch it with them after hearing good things about this movie. This movie was surprisingly good. This movie had amazing cinematography because everything in this movie was wonderful to look at. The characters in this movie were very well done with the relationship between the main character and the wolf. This movie is won't win any Academy Awards, but it still a pretty solid family fil"

"This movie is about a young boy, Keda and his family of nomads who live 20,000 years ago in Europe. During a hunting trip, Keda is separated from his family and spends the remainder of the film trying to get reunited with his family with the help of his newly acquired wolf that he names Alpha. The pacing was very, very slow. Things don't start to pick up until about halfway into the movie when Keda is separated and has to fend for himself. The first half is about his interactions with his family"
