worst films of 2013

I expected better out of Marlon. This is on the level with other bottom tier Wayne's brand junk like Little Man. Hell Dance Flick was funnier and less idiotically offensive then this crap.
Credit to Randy Moore where its due. The film at a lot of points looks great and at times there's some decent suspense. However pretty consistently Escape from Tomorrow doesn't know what it is. Is it trying to tell a paranoid sci-fi yarn with touches of old Disney style? Or a psychosexual thriller\comedy? How about just a goofy sci fi romp?

Normally I like these sort of tonal jumps, but these aren't particularly well done nor so they add up to much. Don't get me wrong there are ideas here, but there's also a lot of uninteresting clutter.
Just a big mess. Despite any changing of scenes and all that Gangster Squad is boring and mostly miscasted. Josh Brolin is one of the few who fits their role and plays it fine but that's about where the pros end. Sean Penn... well he's a bit all over the place. Sometimes it works, but the writing is so stale and uninteresting that after a while he becomes just a loud piece of scenery. Gosling and Stone are also dull and their love story feels very tacked on.

Its shame as there's a lot of talent here and this could've been a less serious, bloody throwback to the 50s gangster picture (its called Gangster Squad for shits sake) but its just junky studio filler that's not even a little fun to watch.
This particular Sparks adaptation is as wonderfully clichรฉd as they get. What brings it down an extra peg how asinine some the twists are. I mean really laughable stuff at times but told stone faced serious. I will say you can get a few chuckles at its expense before it bores you to sleep.
An interesting mess. As a die hard fan of both Ridley and Cormac there were high hopes. But ultimately The Counselor is just a lot of smoke and mirrors to hide nothing you haven't already seen. Well mostly nothing.

I will say the one thing worthwhile is Cameron Diaz. Now the performance isn't a powerhouse of seriousness but one sleaziness. She's like a De Palama character and they do everything in their power to make her and everything around her really pop. But she's the one exception. The directing is too serious for the screenplay and the screenplay is overwritten and doesn't amount to much. Probably the biggest disappointment of 2013.
