TV shows I still wish were on

Pushing Daisies (2007)
One of the best shows I ever saw. The writing was great, the cast was great, and it was truly imaginative (especially visually) & original. So sad that its fans weren't all Nielsen families.

Frisky Dingo (2006)
From the guys that brought us Sealab 2021, this show was even better. Canceled due to the creating company going bankrupt, which sucks given the way the 2nd season ends. I was really looking forward to a 3rd.

The Tick (2001)
Shorter lived than the animated series that preceded it, both TV versions of The Tick were brilliant send-ups of superheroes. The writing for both shows was consistently excellent, so I guess that means they simply failed to win over new fans.
I'd love it if someone would bring either back again now, what with more people watching comic-book-related films these days, but I suspect it'll never happen.

Moral Orel (2005)
The main character, Orel, receives religious teachings from his Christian church service, then goes out to follow them. However, he always ends up following them down the wrong paths & often takes things way too far. It was hilarious.
(Trivia: Moral Orel's creator currently plays Starburns on Community and occasionally contributes in other ways to the show.)

I could've watched Harvey defend Hanna Barbera characters from random crimes forever. I also enjoyed Stephen Colbert as Phil Ken Sebben.

I realize that Jhonen Vasquez has long since moved on, but I would've loved a few more seasons of Zim. Too bad he signed with Nickelodeon instead of Cartoon Network.

It's all MTV's fault this show failed. I mean, how do sock puppets fail to find an audience? Only one way: MTV keeps moving it around their schedule to the point that even its fans can't keep up with when it's on.
Fortunately most of the series keeps popping up on youtube so I can enjoy it again...but it'd be nice if there were more of it to enjoy.

I could've watched them spoof COPS forever. This show earned further respect from me when I found out most of the dialogue was ad-libbed.
the giraffe's rating:
Probably too weird to maintain an audience beyond the most devoted fans of its principals, but since I'm one of those fans I definitely wanted more than just 1 season.
the giraffe's rating:
Far better than Kids in the Hall in my opinion. The only upside to this show getting canceled is the slew of shows & movies the ensemble cast went on to create (like the above 2).

Cartoon Planet (1995)
Cartoon Planet was a Space Ghost Coast-to-Coast spin-off. Space Ghost, Brak, & Zorak would sing silly songs & do little skits. It was more of a variety comedy show, but it was animated. Sadly the only way I can relive it is via a pair of CDs, and while they're fun it's just not the same as with the visuals.

Freakazoid! (1995)
One of the funniest cartoons of the 90s. 2 seasons was way too short.
the giraffe's rating:
The Maxx (1995)
The comic book was great, and I thought this adaptation was very well done. It easily could've had more than 1 season, but that's MTV for ya.

Liquid Television (1991)
Out of all the shows on MTV, this one had the potential to be on forever & should still be on (though if it were it'd be the only thing on MTV worth watching). For those who never saw it, it was a collection of animated shorts from a variety of cartoonists. Beavis & Butt-head and Aeon Flux both got their start here before earning their own series. It had a true anything-goes vibe to it, and it'll always have a place in my heart.
I'd love for someone to release it all on DVD, but I guess with the wide variety of cartoonists involved getting them all to agree to it would be too difficult. Ah, but it appears that there's now a place where you can stream episodes, so that'll have to do.

Beetlejuice (1989)
Such a great, fun series. Why it's still not on DVD I'll never know.
the giraffe's rating:
Pee-wee's Playhouse (1986)
Regardless of Paul Reubens's personal life choices, this show should've been on for years. Such a great character, great kids show, and I still enjoy watching it on DVD. Glad to see Pee-wee's making a comeback (finally).
the giraffe's rating:
...or at least (in the case of the older shows) had stayed on a few more years than they did. All canceled too soon in my opinion.
