Get Lucky - Daft Punk, Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers
I personally don't really like this song but even I have to admit that it's well made. An almost perfect dance tune.
Sovereign DC's rating:

I See Fire - Ed Sheeran
A song made for the "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug". Ed Sheeran had some massive shoes to fill as The Lord of the Rings movies have had a history of top notch original songs. Although he didn't win an Oscar like Annie Lennox's "Into the West" he did create something almost as good.
Sovereign DC's rating:

Radioactive - Imagine Dragons
Imagine Dragons is a fairly new band with their first album "Night Visions" released in 2012. Nevertheless, Radioactive is an almost perfect song. It won a Grammy for Best Rock Performance.
Sovereign DC's rating:

Clarity - Zedd, Foxes
A team up between electronic musician Zedd and singer Foxes. The beat is catchy and although some of lyrics don't make absolute sense it still pulls through because of the almost mesmerizing vocals and electronic beat. It also won a Grammy for Best Dance Recording.
Sovereign DC's rating:

Doc Holliday - Volbeat
Now for a change of pace. Every song on this list has had some form of electronic, now to get heavy. Doc Holliday is a metal homage to one of the most famous gunslingers of the old west. Yes, some of the lyrics are a bit lacking but that guitar riff more then makes up for it.
Sovereign DC's rating:

Lonely Girl - Tonight Alive
Tonight Alive made themselves known on the music scene with a great cover of Mumford and Son's "Little Lion Man" and now they have their own original song that is just as good. They do however sound a bit similar to some other bands most notably Paramore but to me that isn't a bad thing. "Lonely Girl" posses one of the most catchy choruses on this list.
Sovereign DC's rating:

The Three of Us - Streetlight Manifesto
Now for Ska. "The Three of Us" comes from Ska Punk band Streetlight Manifesto's album "The Hand That Thieve". Streetlight Manifesto combines guitar, drums, slide trombone, trumpet, and saxophones to create an upbeat and insanely catchy song.
Sovereign DC's rating:

Treasure - Bruno Mars
Bruno Mars is one of the most talented new artists in a long while and if he can make another song or two like Treasure he will have a new fan. Just try to listen to this song without thinking about dancing. After the stupid Microsoft Sam opening this song is just about perfect.
Sovereign DC's rating:

Can't Hold Us - Macklemore, Ray Dalton
This inspiring song is leaps and bounds ahead of Macklemore's other hit of the year "Thrift Shop". Talk about a song to pump you up.
Sovereign DC's rating:

Pride (The Warrior's Way) - Damnation Angels
I'm sure that 99% of the people on this site have never heard of Damnation Angels, including those who actually like Symphonic Metal. This nine minute song comes across as an epic ballad, telling the story of ten warriors on campaign in a hostile land simply trying to survive.
Sovereign DC's rating:

How was 2013 in music? Better than I hoped. Be warned, my tastes are varied.
