Terribly Miscast

Tom Poston - plays an American car salesman in England, who is invited to the haunted house of his fiance for the weekend. What were they thinking.

John Wayne - as Temujin (Genghis Khan). Need I say more?

Owen Wilson - As Luke Sanderson. The movie makers made many bad decisions in making this film, but perhaps the worst was this one.

Deborah Walley - as Gidget. Deborah had the misfortune, along with Cindy Carol, of trying to play a role that was wonderfully played by Sandra Dee. The later TV performance of Sally Field did not help the Deborah Walley cause.

Kevin Costner - as Robin Hood. What list of miscasts would be complete without the inclusion of this role?

Robin Williams - as Peter Pan. Even though the baby Peter and the teenager Peter were played by other actors, Williams played the ageless, eternal child at age 40!

Mickey Rooney - as I.Y. Yunioshi. It is true that this film role has aged poorly, but even without the benefit of the hindsight, it was a terrible choice to cast Andy Hardy, and is painful to watch. The performance mars an otherwise fine film and a great Capote story.

Marlon Brando - as Dr. Moreau. A casting director can be forgiven for casting Brando in this part. Given his performances in such films as Apocalypse Now and The Godfather, he had perfected the art of playing weird characters. Also, in such films as One the Waterfront, and A Streetcar Named Desire, he had demonstrated his uncanny acting ability. But, by 1996, he had simply become too weird to play this part. Val Kilmer gets honorable mention for this film in his role as Montgomery.

Steve Martin - as Inspector Clouseau. I love Steve Martin. But, the choice to even try to play this character made famous by Peter Sellers was a mistake. The choice to cast him was criminal.
