Full Throttle - PC Games

8.0/10 Stars
The first person shooter market was dominated by iD Software. Apogee took care of the side-scrollers. Nintendo was experimenting with go-karts and 3D. Every major company had their strong points, and LucasArts was the king of point-and-click. True, the 90's was also the birth of Revolution Software, but LucasArts has more memorable, iconic, and beloved titles than Revolution. Sorry Revs, even though your Broken Sword is my all-time favorite game, it's just that you will always be number 2 in my book.
Full Throttle is set in a dystopic future which sees hover-cars and our macho hero, Ben, framed for murder and his gang, The Polecats, incarcerated. Employing most of LucasArts trademarks, it's the least humorous of their adventure games. Not to say Throttle is mean and serious, it's just a little less funny.
With the actual gameplay - cutscenes and all - clocking at just over 2 hours, Full Throttle is a short but damnably engaging and exciting experience. Speaking of which, this game is one of the handful that I played in one sitting, and I'm presuming the same can be said of you, too!
Unlike Revolution's tendency to lean toward puzzles in their games, Full Throttle has minimal puzzle to it, and if it does, it's somewhat silly. I mean, who could've thought of licking the hose for the fuel? or picking up that hard to see hose from Maureen's garage? or exploding a battery-powered bunny? Sure, the sense is seen after when you finish the puzzle, it does leave one head-scratching for a-while.
As much as I loved the somewhat embarrassing, reeks-of-90's graphics and simple-minded story, I absolutely did not enjoy the demolition derby segment. Without spoiling too much, you have to blow up a car while avoiding three others. Honestly, that level was a pain in the ass!
The voice-overs, however, were the meat of the game. Roy Conrad voices Ben - easily one of the best voice-overs I've ever heard. Mark Hamill voices Adrian Ripburger, the villain. Mark was perfect for the role. Both of them together formed a strong backbone of the game and added to the experience.
In conclusion, despite the setbacks, Full Throttle is not only the best game I've played on SCUMMVM, but also my personal favorite from LucasArts. Having played 4 of his games, I can't wait to get my hands on Tim Schafer's Brutal Legend and Psychonauts!
Happy Vader's rating:

Brain-stormed by Ludvig Strigeus, who also came up with UTorrent, SCUMMVM is far and out the best "emulator" you can ever get, and it's totally free, too!
You can check all the games which are compatible with this engine on their main website. Expect one game to download in 20-30 minutes.
Now, about that swearing...
