Steve Jobs (2015)
There was much talk about the film, after last year's underwhelming version starring Kelso failed to click with the public, studios decided that a much more decisive version could be on the cards. The recently deceased Jobs was a mine for, biopic glory, and for a while it seemed that Christian Bale was on the cards. I would have tipped Bale fro a true Oscar win had he stayed in the titular role. It has instead gone to Michael Fassbender, a popular figure and luminaries like Benedict Cucumberpatch and Idris Elba have gone passed him. If Facebender can deliver. He will be well supported by Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle, who is a skilled and assured craftsman who boasts some strong auterial elements and has an eye for sophistication. Even in lite fare such as Trance, his innovation and cutting skill is evidence, and this will be the definitive Steve Jobs biopic.
Joy (2015)
David O. Russell is a director with a penchant for trouble. Famous for screaming at actresses and putting Christopher Nolan in a headlock, he is a Favoured Son at the Academy and his last few films have been strong contenders. J-Law wants another Oscar and this film could push her squarely back in the limelight. The overracting antics of her previous collaboration with Russell have held her in good stead.
