Weekend (2011)
A pitch perfect drama which is very gay but universal in it's of that one love that just simply got away. It struck quite a few chords with me, beyond that it's strikingly well made, and the performances by the two leads are natural, unforced, and heartbreaking. I also loved it's frank depiction of homosexual romance, the sex, while explicit, is also tastefully done. A sense of intimacy with these two individuals feels very real. Just a small, wonderful, and spotless gem.

Submarine (2011)
Smart, funny, and moving. It's also strikingly visual, the lead is like a cross of Max Fischer and Harold of Harold and Maude. I'd even go as for to say that it's the Rushmore of this decade, with so many moments of just magical brilliance. Endlessly watchable.

Melancholia (2011)
Lars Von Trier's cosmic opus is really a fascinating study of depression in all its facets. Having experienced manic depression in my own life, Kirsten Dunst is so convincing and true in her depiction of a woman falling into a pit of despair. From her childish behavior, her exhaustion, her lashing out, her random- if few- moments of happiness, are all wonderfully pulled off my Miss Dunst. Seriously, though, when did she get breasts? Oh, it's also about a planet (Melancholia) on a collision course with earth, and Gainsbourg and Kiefer Sutherland are outstanding as well. The opening montage is mesmerizing, the ending is shaking. It's honestly a bit slow at times, but it's always engrossing.

Self-explanatory.
