This one earns the top spot for me because it comes from Laika who have three stop-motion films under their belt that are all great in my book. At this point I'm down for anything they release. Add to that the stellar trailer above and it's easy to see why I'm so excited for this one.

The Handmaiden (2016)
Very late entry to this list, but any Chan-wook Park film is highly anticipated by me. I have no idea from the trailer what exactly this is about but it looks Amazing.
the giraffe's rating:
Hail, Caesar! (2016)
Coen brothers...need I say more? Looks like this film will be more in the vein of Burn After Reading, which means it might not cross the line of greatness for me. But since I haven't seen a Coens-directed film yet that I didn't like I know it'll still be worth watching.
the giraffe's rating:
The Nice Guys (2016)
This is a no-brainer. Shane Black wrote & directed this one, and the trailer reminds me a little of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang which is a very good thing. I'll see this ASAP after it comes out.
the giraffe's rating:
The Little Prince (2015)
More animation that's not from Disney/Pixar? Sign me up. The cast here is stellar & the trailer is so impressive I can't miss this one. Only question is...will the kiddo like it?
the giraffe's rating:
Everybody Wants Some!! (2016)
New Linklater? And it's a spiritual (not direct) sequel to Dazed and Confused? Why can't I watch it now???
the giraffe's rating:
When I first read about this film I can't say I cared. But then I saw the trailer for it. This looks like it'll be pretty unique.
the giraffe's rating:
The Revenant (2015)
The trailer won me over, and at this point I'll watch pretty much anything Tom Hardy does.
the giraffe's rating:
Triple 9 (2016)
You had me at John Hillcoat. Only way I could be more excited is if Nick Cave penned the script (he didn't).
the giraffe's rating:
The Lobster (2015)
This looks really different, especially for Colin Farrell. Curious to check it out.
the giraffe's rating:
The Conjuring 2 (2016)
Honestly I don't think we need another Conjuring movie, but since James Wan is returning to direct I'll watch it. And it'll probably be good too, especially if the trailer is any indication.
I'd be far more excited, however, if he had a NEW horror project coming out this year.
the giraffe's rating:
Hearing a lot of buzz for this one so it's definitely on my radar. And now that I've seen the trailer I'm very very intrigued.
the giraffe's rating:
Midnight Special (2016)
I haven't seen Take Shelter yet, but I did see Mud so I'm down for another Jeff Nichols flick. The trailer is very intriguing.
the giraffe's rating:
The Invitation (2015)
I've seen some horror sites buzzing about this one too. And thanks to the teaser trailer I'm more solidly on board than before. Best of all it doesn't really give anything away as to what the film is about, but rather lets what you see raise questions in your head.
the giraffe's rating:
Pee-wee's Big Holiday (2016)
As a long-time fan of Pee-wee Herman I have no reason to not watch his latest film, especially since it'll show up on Netflix Instant. The trailer looks like it will be pretty fun.
the giraffe's rating:
Deadpool (2016)
The first trailer didn't sell me, but holy crap this one did. Looks like it'll be a great time, so I'm in.
the giraffe's rating:
X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)
Yep, I'm still a sucker for watching any film with the X-Men. The last two were so damn good though that my expectations are probably too high for the new one. The trailer is definitely promising though.
the giraffe's rating:
Captain America: Civil War (2016)
Iron Man vs. Captain America? Sure, why not? At least it's not that other comic movie with the two superheros fighting each other. And Winter Soldier was one of the better Marvel films, so hopefully this will live up to that standard.
the giraffe's rating:
Hearing lots of good buzz around this one too. The trailer has me very curious to check it out.

Mildly anticipating
Doctor Strange (2016)
I'm not big on Dr. Strange, and the trailer looks like it'll be an origin story with detours through The Matrix and Inception. Which I guess means the visuals will be entertaining at least. I'll wait & see what others have to say for it rather than rush out opening weekend.
the giraffe's rating:
On one hand I don't need a Star Wars movie every year, as it diminishes any value or anticipation for each release. On the other hand this trailer looks more intriguing than episode VII did from its trailers and has the potential to exceed that one in overall quality. Let's just hope it doesn't waste too much time shoehorning in a bunch of events we've already seen before.
the giraffe's rating:
Star Trek Beyond (2016)
Um, so, the trailer isn't impressive to me at all. I did enjoy the last two installments of the series, however, so I may end up checking this one out. Keep in mind though that I didn't see either of its predecessors on the big screen.

Do we have to?
Finding Dory (2016)
I don't need a sequel to Finding Nemo, and I especially don't need one that focuses on my least favorite character (sorry Dory fans). The trailer just annoys me, so I really have no urge to watch this one. With my luck though I'll wind up taking the kiddo to see it, so it's probably unavoidable.
the giraffe's rating:
Ghostbusters (2016)
I like the idea of an all-female group of Ghostbusters, and the fact Bill Murray is on board does make me curious. But if I'm honest I only ever needed the original film, so forgive me if I'm not enthusiastic about this one. Maybe a trailer will entice me to actually see it.
*Updated* - The trailers for this make it look like they're rehashing the first film...lots of recycling going on here. And for something that's supposed to be a comedy, I'm not laughing. This one has been downgraded.
Independence Day: Resurgence (2016)
Seriously? As long as it's been since the first we're digging up a sequel now? I mean, the first film was entertaining enough, but not so much that we need another one. And this one looks like it's lacking the humor of the original which doesn't bode well either.
Jason Bourne (2016)
Again, I don't really need another Bourne movie. I didn't even see the last one with Jeremy Renner, and the trilogy was wrapped up well enough I just can't see the point in another sequel. But hey, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it'll actually be worth watching. At this point, however, I'm not sold. And the trailer leaves me indifferent, which isn't a good sign.
Here are the films I'm most looking forward to as we kick off 2016.
