The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

Back when I was a kid, this movie would have been considered very dark. These days it's really tame. Either way, it's one of the best Star Wars films, and I got to like it more when I got older.
ChihuahuaDaddy's rating:

This list would not be complete without the infamous Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. It's still the darkest, goriest Indiana Jones film ever, despite being mild by today's standards.

Licence to Kill (1989)

This was once my favorite movie, and I still think it's one of the best Bond films ever. It's one of the Bond films closest to an Ian Fleming novel, at least ones that I have read.
It also was, and still is, the darkest, bloodiest Bond movie ever made. It was made in the days when big filmmakers had big balls. A ballsy Bond movie wasn't made again until Casino Royale in 2006.
ChihuahuaDaddy's rating:

What do viewers expect? It's the one in which Anakin goes full Dark Side. Of course Episode 3 is really dark by Star Wars standards!
Still, there was not enough Jar Jar Binks, dammit!
ChihuahuaDaddy's rating:

Casino Royale (2006)

After the total fucking train wreck that was Die Another Day, a necessary turn was made with Casino Royale. While not as graphic as Licence To Kill, it is pretty dark compared to many previous Bond films.

Punisher: War Zone (2008)
After the Punisher movie with that clown (John Travolta), Punisher: War Zone is quite an improvement. The violence, at times, gets so outlandish that it could pass for dark comedy - and I love it! Roll that great splatter footage!
ChihuahuaDaddy's rating:

Rambo (2008)

Thought that Rambo films were gory before? Holy fucking shitballs de la chingada!
It is exactly what a Rambo movie should be. Along with the original Taken, it's one of the most perfect action movies ever made!
ChihuahuaDaddy's rating:

Sequels and reboots that take a turn for the darker and/or gorier.
