The Godfather of Euro Disco, am I right? He was also capable of doing strong film scores, too. Scarface OST is the perfect hybrid of serious moody songs and the kind of Top40 material he was known for. It makes me cream my pants.

"Classical music with synthesizers" as I see it. I get intense visions of futuristic cities and far away planets from his music. He probably didn't intend it that way.

"Alpha" must be one of the most epic compositions ever. Finns know that one as the theme song to "Madventures."

Almost impossible to put in one category. Pop, funk, R&B and rock put into a blender, I think.
Love or hate the personality, his music is impossible not to like. Also, kind of hard to put in one category seeing how he did this pop-ish Motown R&B, but then all of a sudden he has Eddie Van Halen in his song. The unique voice, weird screams and great producers to back him up, his songs were always spectacles of some sort.

With unpredictable rhyming patterns, old school soul & R&B beats backing him up, the cleverest approach to rap and its clichรฉs I've ever heard, and an unbelievably charismatic personality, I can't help but feel 90% of the rap music I am familiar with gets outdated whenever I listen to Ruudolf. Even his God mumbo jumbo doesn't bother me as it never feels he's shoving Christianity down my throat.

Let me summarize this legendary NY producer: his beats make every rapper look good. The inventive sampling, hardcore bass lines and pumping drums always make my head nod. Guru was lucky to have this guy as the other half of Gang Starr.

But in all honesty, though, I liked his stuff from '97 to '00 the best. But that's just me.

Not even among my favorite rappers, to be honest, but certainly one I respect the hell out of. His music to me is about 60% good / 40% annoying, but it doesn't matter. Even if he did nothing but crap for the next thirty years his best stuff will always shine through. The guy is just a fantastic storyteller with subject matters ranging from bashing pop culture phenomena to sorting out his drug problems, and moods from very dark comedy to extremely heartfelt songs.

Aside from being a sick rhymer, this is a rapper I could almost always comprehend (not a totally useless talent). I don't always know what rappers are talkin' about. Only I wish he'd have a little better production from time to time and less accent songs but hey. He does what he does. I can't help it.
Because saxophone is sexyphone.
