Count Waldemar Daninsky (the "Wolf Man" or "El Hombre Lobo") is a character created by Spanish actor/filmmaker Paul Naschy (aka Jacinto Molina Álvarez). Naschy was heavily influenced by Universal monster films, particularly Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man. Count Waldemar Daninsky first appeared in Frankenstein's Bloody Terror in 1968. The role was initially offered to Lon Chaney Jr., but he turned it down, forcing Naschy to play the part. He reprised the role in a string of films up to Tomb of the Werewolf in 2004. Naschy also had a hand in writing the story and/or screenplay for all the films listed except Tomb of the Werewolf. Paul Naschy succumbed to pancreatic cancer on November 30, 2009, but he left behind a true legacy to horror fans worldwide and particularly to Spanish horror cinema.
