5x02 - We're Lost in the Dark

A power outage at the hospital puts multiple patients at risk and tests the skills of the staff and their enthusiastic new third-year medical students. Dr. Manning returns to work following her traumatic brain injury. Dr. Choi and April wonder if a family is in their future.

5x03 - In the Valley of the Shadows

April and Dr. Marcel get off to a rocky start when tending to a patient who claims she has just given birth. Dr. Choi deals with a patient who has terminal cancer and is trying to deliberately end his own life. Dr. Manning deals with a patient with second-degree burns. Maggie trains a new nurse. After falling and fracturing her wrist at home, CeCe comes to terms with her own mortality.

5x04 - Infection, Part II

The entire population of an apartment complex is forced into quarantine when multiple cases of flesh-eating bacteria are discovered. The Chicago P.D. Intelligence Unit chases a lead that could point to a case of bioterrorism, while multiple patients succumb to the disease. Dr. Halstead works closely with a representative from the CDC and doctors from the involved university lab, putting him dangerously close to the suspect. Meanwhile, Sharon Goodwin deals with the press.

5x05 - Got a Friend in Me

Dr. Choi and Dr. Marcel don't see eye-to-eye on the treatment of a patient's chronic pain. Dr. Manning works to help a young boy, but her treatment suggestions are challenged by his parents who believe in using only holistic remedies, forcing her to take extreme measures. Maggie continues her chemotherapy treatment and contemplates revealing her condition to her coworkers. Dr. Halstead tends to a patient with a severely swollen calf. CeCe tries to play cupid.

5x06 - It's All in the Family

Dr. Manning's actions with a recent patient lead to serious repercussions and put her at a crossroads in her relationships with both Phillip and Dr. Halstead when Dr. Marcel reveals his suspicions of Phillip. April and Noah stumble upon an assault in an alley and disagree over the patient's treatment, discovering that the patient was about to be initiated into a gang. Dr. Choi and Dr. Charles tend to a patient who is transitioning. Sharon reconsiders reconciling with her ex-husband Bert.

5x07 - Who Knows What Tomorrow Brings

Dr. Charles and Dr. Halstead sink their teeth into a bloodthirsty case, where a patient believes that he is a vampire. Maggie meets a man while at chemotherapy and also hosts a crawfish party along with Dr. Marcel. Dr. Manning and Elsa Curry deal with a patient with respiratory issues. Dr. Choi's treatment of a military amputee is interrupted when a group of military officers escort his patient back to base. April and Dr. Choi discuss their plans of having children.

5x08 - Too Close to the Sun

Maggie gets unsettling news about her new friend Ben and takes unethical steps in order to support him. Noah is rushed into emergency surgery by Dr. Marcel after being violently assaulted. Dr. Choi and Dr. Charles deal with a social media influencer patient who is using his followers to make medical decisions on his behalf. Dr. Halstead treats a patient who is experiencing difficulties with a new kidney.

5x09 - I Can't Imagine the Future

April receives unfortunate news about her fertility that makes her question her future with Dr. Choi. Maggie's new boyfriend's health starts to improve, while Dr. Charles' wife CeCe's health deteriorates. While treating Phillip's daughter Sophie, Dr. Manning's memory from the accident suddenly starts to return and she realizes she has made a big mistake.

5x10 - Guess It Doesn't Matter Anymore

Dr. Halstead's world is thrown into turmoil when a former patient resurfaces. Dr. Charles tries to maintain his focus during a difficult time, as he mourns the loss of his wife CeCe. April deals with the fallout from her kiss with Dr. Marcel and considers telling Ethan. However, she gets surprising news from Ethan himself.

Dr. Manning treats a child patient who is the child of one of Dr. Halstead's patients. Elsa Curry gets distracted by a phone app when treating a patient with panic attacks.

5x11 - The Ground Shifts Beneath Us

After a major plane crash at O'Hare, the team at Gaffney is concerned when one of their own, Dr. Abrams, is identified as one of the victims. Dr. Charles and Dr. Halstead's proposal for a safe injection site at the hospital goes to the board for consideration. Dr. Manning finds a baby alone in a freezing car and discovers that the child belongs to hospital COO Gwen Garrett. Dr. Marcel and Dr. Choi tend to Dr. Abrams' treatment, but his young wife shows up and immediately wants to pull the plug. Noah and April tend to a patient who gave birth to a baby who is not her biological child.

5x12 - Leave the Choice to Solomon

The team deals with the aftermath of a school bus crash. Dr. Marcel and Dr. Manning make difficult decisions when two children are impaled by pipes. Dr. Charles worries Dr. Halstead is putting his medical license in jeopardy when his side project begins to take a toll on his performance. Maggie helps treat an old friend in need.

5x13 - Pain Is for the Living

Two brothers in critical condition are rushed into the hospital by their parents, leaving Dr. Choi, April and Dr. Charles to tend to their care and to piece together what actually transpired. Dr. Manning grows suspicious of a new mother entering the E.D. who shows no emotion when her child is diagnosed with a stomach condition. Dr. Halstead's tireless activities at the safe injection site start to take a toll on his work, and he is shocked to discover that one of his addicts is a fellow doctor.

5x14 - It May Not Be Forever

Dr. Manning and Dr. Marcel disagree over a patient who is involved in a domestic dispute. Dr. Halstead struggles with ethics and his decision to work at the safe injection site. Dr. Charles and Elsa Curry take over another doctor's patient who is in a vegetative state when they suspect that the patient may be has been misdiagnosed. Dr. Choi and April treat a patient who has an allergy to her husband's semen.

5x15 - I Will Do No Harm

Dr. Charles and Dr. Manning treat a patient who is fully invested in pretending to be someone other than himself. Noah begins to doubt his abilities as a doctor. Dr. Marcel and Dr. Choi are faced with a tough ethical decision. Dr. Halstead puts his faith in an addict.

5x16 - Who Should Be the Judge

A convicted murderer's escape hits close to home when Dr. Marcel and Dr. Manning are kidnapped at gunpoint. Dr. Charles and Dr. Halstead are on opposite sides when dealing with a teenage patient who is exhibiting signs of schizophrenia. Dr. Choi and April discover the truth about a patient's scam. Dr. Halstead deals with the fallout from turning in Hannah. Maggie finally receives some good news about her cancer treatment.

5x17 - The Ghosts of the Past

Dr. Manning and Dr. Charles assist in a complicated case helping a 4-year-old who they quickly learn is no stranger to the ED. They quickly suspect that the mother might be abusing her to get attention. Dr. Marcel and Dr. Choi tend to a police officer with a mysterious gunshot wound to the abdomen. April reveals to Ethan that she kissed Crockett, causing Ethan and Crockett to come to blows. Maggie plans her wedding.

5x18 - In the Name of Love

Dr. Charles and Goodwin fear Dr. Halstead is repeating his past mistakes when a patient with early-onset Alzheimer's is brought into the E.D. Maggie and Ben become concerned when one of Ben's students is admitted, and discover that he hasn't been receiving treatment. Dr. Manning and Dr. Marcel treat a terminally ill patient and disagree over the best course of action when the patient wants to have a difficult surgery. April and Ethan's relationship begins to deteriorate following the fallout of April's confession.

5x19 - Just a River in Egypt

Dr. Charles evaluates a 15-year-old who is brought into the E.D. after an apparent fall off an overpass. Dr. Halstead sides with Dr. Asher on a risky treatment plan. Tensions run high between Dr. Choi and Dr. Marcel.

5x20 - A Needle in the Heart

Dr. Marcel is visited by two New Orleans detectives who have questions about his past. Dr. Choi puts his life in danger to save a child. Dr. Charles gives fatherly advice to his young daughter.
